My son is 18 months old and has now figured out how to climb out of his crib. My husband and I have no clue what to do anymore. Everytime I put him down for a nap in his crib, he ends up sleeping on the floor. At night time when my husband gets home from work he has to put him back in his crib beacuse my son once again gets out and falls asleep on the floor. I feel like such a horrible parent knowing that my son is sleeping on the floor but I have just ran out of ideas on what to do. Please Help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank u everyone who responded back. We did transition his crib to a todller bed, but he still ends up on the floor. I do feel much better knowing that he can get back in his bed if he wanted to. I know its just a learning process that he will soon learn to stay in bed.

It seems as if he is ready for a toddler bed. Does his crib convert? If it does not come with a side rail, then it would probably be best to buy a toddler bed (walmart has them for around 45.00). Our crib did not convert and we bought a rail to go under the mattress, one night he (24 months) stood up and landed flat on his face...we woke up to him crying at midnight. If you do choose to move him to a toddler bed, be prepared for that adventure too! (him getting out of bed and going to the door, playing with available toys, etc...but that is a whole other topic)

Hi, We got a toddler bed for my son when he was about 18 months old. He loved it because it was low to the ground and had sides on half of the bed so he didn't roll out. You can also use the mattress from his crib in the toddler bed so you don't have to buy a new mattress right away. Good luck!

I would get him a toddler bed, or simply a mattress on the floor. Once they are crawling out of cribs, it is dangerous. He could get caught between the crib and the wall, or in a part of the crib, etc.

You're not a horrible parent!!! Maybe it's time to get a toddler bed though. Some kids are ready for that earlier than others. That way he can get back into his bed on his own. Some people just try a twin mattress on the floor instead of a toddler bed, that works too.

I agree the toddler bed is the way to go, but you might want to put up a baby gate at his door, unless you keep his door closed at night. You don't want him to be roaming around the house at night while you're asleep.
