Seeking GOOD Reliable Childcare in My Area

I need help! My children currently attend a daycare that we're not too happy with. I need to find another daycare center in my area that is very good with children. I'm looking for a place with a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio, clean, does art projects with the kids, teaches them according to their ages... The problem I'm finding is there aren't too many daycares listed in my area and the ones I'm finding are over $400/month, a little more than I can afford. I'm looking for care in Berkley, Southfield, Birmingham, Royal Oak, Clawson. If anyone can give me a recommendation for a daycare or point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I've looked into Country Days and they currently don't have any openings for the girls. They are going to send me some info in the mail as well. I also looked into Sunny Skies in Clawson. They are the same price as Country Days. Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately I don't have anyone in my family who can help out during the days, but that's ok. Our daycare usually costs the same as Country Days and Sunny Skies, but when the old director was there she and the staff all loved my child and family that they worked with us and what we could afford. They were a great daycare at the time, but once the director left it all seemed to go downhill. Thanks for all your help. Hopefully something will work out soon.

This may be one of the centers that has already been suggested, but what about the child care program through Clawson Public Schools?

I have a cousin who worked there through college. She's now a 5th grade teacher in the district and is expecting her first child. Her baby will be attending that center in the fall.

Also, have you considered a nanny? I worked as a nanny for years and think it's a great option for child care. Your kids will get so much individualized attention. I did daily lesson plans and took them on weekly outings. It was so much fun!

I LOVE my child's daycare- Country Days in Clawson (not to be confused with Gateway Country Day). Its small, not fancy at all, BUT its reasonably priced and most importantly the staff LOVES LOVES LOVES the kids. I could not be happier!
Good luck!

PS- they do not have a website- they are on Main just n of 14...and I think they are listed...I don't have my phone here-so I don't have their number.. sorry...pm me if you are interested and I will dig it up.

It's probably too far, but there's Kiddie Klub in Rochester Hills.. it seems like they do a LOT with the kids. Would you consider a nanny or something like that?

R., I think you may be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Generally a good daycare is going to cost AT LEAST $150 per week per child(usually you get a break for the 2nd child). Anything less than that and you will be getting a babysitter. You need to think about what you are paying hourly ($40 per day is only $5 per hour for 8 hours) what kind of service would you provide for $5 per hour or less? The Bussey Center in Southfield offers some free preschool but you would need to qualify and it is only part-time. Do you have a family member who can watch them one or two days a week and then only use daycare part-time to help reduce the cost (I pay $147 for 3 days (9-10 hours per day)for my daughter).

Good luck
