I am retired and would like to meet people who share common interests. After I wrote that it sounded as though I may be interested in dating, lol. That is not so at all. I am a proud grandparent whose family means the world to me. After retirement, I realized I had surrounded myself with others that were connected with my occupation. When I stopped working, we moved to Pittsburgh. Although I have a husband, I still want to share this new part of my life with others who may have a similar situation or just want to talk. I love animals, think house cleaning is a waste of time, but I keep telling myself that is the same things as saying you don't have time to bathe...so I do the cleaning. My project this month is getting what I call my office area under control. Does anyone out there have any good ideas for organizing paperwork?

You need to meet people, but you can't meet people if you just stay home...
Paperwork? OMG! If you could see my desk...
Some people use different colored folders for different categories - red for bills, yellow for receipts, green for tax info...
YMMV

Hi J.! I've found that those expanding files work great! There are 7 pockets and you can label the top--I have a few of these! :) Everything is in one place- a file for each type of bill, doctor info, insurance info--it is so helpful. Since they say you have to keep tax info for 7 years (I think...?) you can use one and all the taxes are in one file. You can find them at any office supply store, I recommend Staples. :) Hope this helps, let me know what you decide, or get other ideas.

I love organizing... not that you would probably notice it, but I do. And I LOVE to buy organizing products. My favorite financial info organizer is a yearly binder I bought a stationary store. It has a pocket for every month and I use it to file away any kind of paper bills I have. I have switched to paperless billing for everything EXCEPT my credit card bills (I keep them for tax purposes), but there are always odd bits and pieces that need to be corralled, and it works great. At tax time I go through the file, keep what I need for taxes, and shred the rest.
For other kids of paper work, I'm big into files. File for the dog. File for the baby. File for medical insurance. Etc.... If you don't want to get a filing cabinet, IKEA makes some great baskets that you can put hanging files in.
Good luck in your quest to get organized and aclimated to Pittsburgh. It is a great town, but can be a bit tough to "break into." There are great volunteering activities... Volunteer Match and Pittsburgh Cares are two great places to get info.
