Seeking Caters

I am planning a baptism in December. Afterwards I do want to throw a party with dinner. I am not a good cook when it comes to cooking for a big party. There will probably be around 30-40 people. Does anyone know of a good cater that isn't too expensive since maternity leave has us relying on one income. I live in the San ramon area. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would highly recommend Strizzis in Pleasanton. They are a restaurant but also provide food for catering. You pick it up & serve yourself so it cuts the costs. They have mostly pasta, but chicken, sald, & I think steaks too. Go eat there & check it out!

Here is a link to their menu, scroll all the way to almost the end for the catering menu. http://www.strizzis.com/takeout_ptown.html

If you want to go a less expensive route you might try Domenicos in downtown Danville for yummy sandwiches and salads. Strizzis in Blackhawk caters pasta dishes for large groups, and many of the mexican restaurants also offer catering. This would not include servers, but it would be less expensive than a full time caterer. I have also heard good things about Whole Foods in San Ramon. I have eaten at parties catered by Patrick Davids in the Livery and they did include servers, but are a bit pricier. FYI One of the best bakeries in the area that did the baptism cakes for both my children is City of D'lights in San Ramon. Very elegant cakes and great to work with. Good Luck!

I am not sure what kind of food you are looking for but Tiki Tom in Walnut Creek is excellent. He is very reasonably priced and will work with you on the menu, pricing, etc. His staff does a great job, and there is always more than enough food. I was married in Hawaii and had a reception back here so of course I wanted a Hawaiian menu. My friend used Tiki Tom for her wedding and chose a more traditional menu and the food was delicious. He gives it his personal touch and takes pride in doing a great job. Both events received many compliments on the food/catering.

Try a dinner assembly studio. You can usually get a delicious entree that serves 6 people for around $25. You could make them yourself at the store, and then it would be true that you made it yourself! They also have the option where you pay an extra charge if you want them to assemble the dinners for you. You can't beat it at under $5/serving, and it might even be less than that. You will need to purchase about 7 of these dinners to feed everyone and would just need to make a salad and starch to go with dinner. You might try Dinners Galore in Livermore or Ensembles. Your food will be restaurant quality and flavor and you could probably get 7 dinners for under $200. I bet your guests would be impressed and it would make things easier for you without the expense of a caterer. The staff at these stores could help you with an easy suggestion for an entree based on your needs.

Gagnon's catering is great for parties. Also Strizzi's in Danville does great large pasta dishes and is less expensive but still really good. If you wanted to supply the decorations drinks, etc., and just have the bulk of the food, I would ask any restuarant that you like too...Most do some sort of catering! For a great and beautiful cake...Primrose bakery in Pleasanton does AMAZING cakes. A little pricey but they are so beautiful you really don't need too many decorations as they are the centerpiece!!!

Try Sunrise Catering in Walnut Creek, they have been in business for years and do a wonderful job. Dragon 2000 offers wonderful chinese menu or you could get already cooked chicken and ribs, salads and desserts from Costco and get some high school kids to help in the kitchen. I served 40 for my husband's surprise 55th dinner from Costco for just under $300.00, including beverages. The menu included, chickens already cooked, we cut up, rolls, cesear salads, potato salad, waters, sodas, beer and wine along with dessert. Everyone had plenty to eat and a great time. Good luck!
