Seeking Boarder in East Mesa

Hi moms! I was hoping someone could help me out. I'm looking to board my two dogs for the first time ever (they're 8 years old) because we're trying to plan a family trip to Disneyland and since my parents are usually the ones who watch them, I'm not really sure what to do. So my first question, is does anyone know of a good boarder near Power & McKellips in Mesa? My second question is what should I expect (what's it like at a boarder, what exactly do they do with the dogs, what are the costs like, questions I should ask them or things I should look for when choosing one)? I’m very leery to board my dogs. They’ve not really had much interaction with other dogs except for my parent’s dog and the few times we’ve taken them to a dog park. One is a German Shepherd and the other is a Lab mix. My shepherd is OCD with playing fetch and other than being protective of us, isn’t really aggressive. Our Lab mix would be a big lap dog if she could and is very passive when around other dogs. Thanks in advance for your help!

What can I do next?

We use Sleepover Rover. People actually take your dogs into their homes. I think it's less stresful for the dogs than being caged. You can check them out at www.sleepoverrover.com

My dogs really enjoyed their stay at Bark Avenue. It's not cheap, but they came home happy and didn't diarrhea for two days like they've done before after a kennel stay. We have an OCD fetcher as well and she got the attention she needed at this place. www.barkavepet.com

A friend of ours uses 4 Paws Pet Resort, which would be closer to you. www.4pawspetresort.com

If you google them, they both have reviews, which I haven't read through completely. Looks like a mixed set of experiences.

Good luck and enjoy Disney!

We also use an at-home dog sitter. We have 2 dogs and 1 indoor cat so it is actually less expensive for us to have the pet sitter come and stay at our house. I think she is wonderful and is really good with our animals. Her name is Andrea and her website is http://www.theaffordablehomesitter.com/index.html.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

My favorite Place is the Pudgy Pup. They are actually a doggie day care that offers boarding. You will will not find any kennels or cages at their facility. The dogies get to play all day like at the dog park then at night they put beds down. The owners are great and they absolutely love dogs. They are located on southern and power behind the fire station. I hope you check them out.

I've tried several different places (PetsHotel in PetsMart, my vet, Second Home Pet Resort, & Bark Avenue Pet Resort.) We liked the Second Home Pet Resort & the Bark Avenue Pet Resort, however the Second Home Pet Resort was in Phx (we dropped off on our way to my Mom's house in Phx.) Bark Avenue is great! They are at: 3109 E. McKellips Road
Mesa, Arizona 85213 Main ###-###-####...website: http://www.barkavepet.com/ . Our dog eats 4 times a day & can get loose stool, but had a great experience here. They even put her in a quiet hall where other dogs were not (per our request) so that she would be less stressed.

I toured a bunch on places seeking just the right one when I found the Bark Avenue Pet Resort.

Best of luck.

Have you considered having someone come to your home to care for your pets? Sometimes pets are more comfortable in their own surroundings. Do you have a doggy door so your dogs can go out and relieve themselves? If so, 2 visits should work just fine. If you need a recommendation, maybe calling a local pet rescue group may help, like Friends for Life or http://www.ajsbestfriends.org/, or I am connected to the rescue community and I could send out an inquiry on your behalf.

A friend of ours used to work at "Born to Run" on ValVista/Ray area.
The dogs get lots of play time and lots of interaction... not sure what the prices are, but I think it's quite reasonable. Something to check in to....
