Seeking Any Advice on What to Use on My Daughters Sore.

My 18 month old daugther has sores on her feet from her shoes being wet and rubbing on her skin. Ive put neosporin on it and tried to keep them covered with band aids but she keeps pulling them off. Every time she gets up off the floor she rubs the sore on the carpet and it starts bleeding again. I would like any advice on what else I should use.

What can I do next?

K.,

What about mole skin? This is found in the first aid aisle and is very sticky. You cut thin strips and place them around the sore in a square shape with a donut hole in the middle for the sore to air out.

The mole skin creates a raised area that protects the sore from being bumped and bruised until it heals. Many hikers use mole skin if they develop a blister from wet shoes and it makes a huge difference in the healing time of the blister.

Good luck!

I've found that allowing sores to dry out and scab over is the fastest way to get healing. Many doctors will tell you to do this while others will tell you to let it heal wet under a bandage with neosporin.

I'd suggest using both methods. Try the bandage and neosporin at night time and then try to let it dry out in the day. Try the neosporin spray rather then ointment in the day time if you're worried about infection.

My husband used this method to heal a burn on his arm and it really has worked well.

Band aid and then have her wear socks until the sore has time to heal. The socks will also help prevent infection.

Try the waterproof bandaids they attach like skin and are really thin and harder to pick off.

Hi K.---I'd keep shoes and socks on her feet until they healed. As others have noted, it would probably be good to remove them when she is restrained in her high chair or at night when she goes to bed. It won't take long, but it is so frustrating when the sore opens up all of the time in the beginning.

Be sure she gets lots of fruits and veggies to help her heal quickly. Dark leafy greens will give her lots of Vitamin K whick will help clotting.

Good luck. D.

I would keep neosporin on them and have her wear socks. But...they should get some air for a few hours a day (or at night) too. Make sure they don't get infected..

I HATE water shoes...we have had this problem too. Now, my kids wear crocs or water socks.

I don't know if it would work, but have you tried the liquid band aid product. You spray it on and it makes a barrier.

Keep using the Neosporin. Instead of using band aids, gets some guaze pads use special bandage tape to keep it secure or either gauze bandaging, all of which can be purchased at a drugstore or grocery store from the first aid isle. Also, even though it's warm, put a thin pair of tights on her. That will keep her from removing the bandages. Make sure you clean the sores and change the gauze pads every morning and at night before bed. I have never heard of this happening. Keep her feet dry. Perhaps your daughters shoes are too big or maybe too small. Try and keep an extra pair of shoes in the car or in her bag so when you out at the playground or elsewhere and she steps in a puddle or something, you can switch out her shoes promptly. Make sure you have a doctor look at it as well to make sure it doesn't get infected.
