I'm looking into getting certified as a school teacher. I have a 5 year old and a 18 month old so going to night school is not an option as my husband works late. I'm looking for a well accredited online school that I can take. Do any of you have any sources or recommendations?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I feel very encouraged by all your responses. Finding a good online school is like finding a needle in a hay stack. Everyone had great resources to look into and I just feel better being referred by others who have used or had friends that used the online school. You have all motivated me! Thank you all for taking the time to respond.

ever heard of "paycation"? Would you like to travel for free or for pennies on the dollar? Owning a home-based travel website of your own could help you get there. Check out www.yourtravelbiz.com if interested, get back to me and i'll gladly assist you.

national university is a little expensive but I have many friends who got their credentials there and they have a speedy online program.

T.,
My husband has decided to go back to school as well and night school is not really an option with us as well. We looked into all the online schools that we could think of. The University that we really like is National University. It's accreditted nation wide, unlike several schools out here that are online, so the degree will still be valid if we move! It's kind of expensive, but it's a class a month so it goes fast! I'm not sure all the degrees that are offered. We were just looking for business. I hope this helps!!

Hi T.,

I'm a teacher w/LAUSD and thought I'd send you some resources. You have two options each with its +'s and -'s. You could do a credential (single subject allows you to teach grades 7-12 while the multiple subject allows you to teach k-6)through the CSU system: +'s = affordable tuition; -'s = longer time in the program OR you can enroll in programs through National University, Chapman University, University of La Verne, etc -- +'s = credential within a year; -'s = higher tuition....about 1300 per class....for about 10 classes.

At least one or two of these places should have an online program. You can check out their sites: www.csun.edu (that's for northride...depends on where you live); www.national.edu; www.chapman.edu, www.universityoflaverne.com . National and Chapman's main campus are elsewhere but they have satellite campuses throughout the la region.

If you would go for a single subject, it's easier if your Bachelor's degree was in a specific subject...i.e math, english, science, history....OR you have to have enough unit in the subject you would seek a credential in.

There are exams you have to pass for either type of credential...usually the university gives you a certain amount of time to pass those after you start the program. It's a good idea to ask them where you can take a prep class that would help.

Anyhoo, this turned out to a be longer email than I thought!! Hopefully, you find something useful. Let me know if you need any more info....
