Seeking Advice on Tag-along/trailer Bikes for 5 Year Old

We're thinking of getting a tag-along bike for our 5 year old. Does anyone have advice about what to look for or can recommend (or not recommend!) a brand and model? We'd like it to attach and detach fairly easily and work well for a small child (daughter is 40 inches tall) who doesn't ride a two-wheeler yet.

J.,

We have the InStep carrier from Target. We love it! It attached and detaches very easily. It is made for two kids to sit in it up to 100 pounds. We use it for our two sons 4 and 20 months. Our four year old likes to ride his own bike so for short rides he does that but for long ones he sits in the carrier. I just saw it in Targets ad yesterday and it was $90. We got ours four years ago and paide $75.

Many years ago we splurged and got the Trek one. It's great quality and not too heavy, some of the cheaper ones are quite heavy. I am looking forward to using it with boy #4.

If you're not set on getting a brand new one, you might be able to find a used one on craigslist.

I bought a Trail-a-bike brand model and loved it! We went everywhere on that thing. Never any problems.

Fox River Trail in Geneva is great place to bike. Weekends can be really busy, though.

We have a schwinn trail a bike and we love it! We were using it last summer, when he was 3.5 and around 40inches tall.

Hi J. - I'm looking into this too. I've done a little research into them and I have read that some have a tendency to tip if the adult turns too fast. I've read about some kind of attachment that allows a regular bike to be hooked up to yours (supposed to be a little more economical I guess) My neighbor has a tag along made by Trek that she likes. I look forward hearing what other have to say!
