I would highly recommend a salt water pool. I had one for 6 years and it was excellent all the kids loved the soft water on their skin and I had no green hair. Yes do it!!!!
I need input on saline pools. I do not want chlorine that is a known carcinogen any longer in my pool. If you know someone or have a saline pool, I would like to know how it is working for you. I have researched online, but I want some first hand information from one who has a saline pool.
Thanks to all of you for your prompt responses and suggestions. All your information will be so helpful in making my decision. Wow! Mamasource is fabulous!

We have a saline pool because of a family members allergy to chlorine. B., I am NOT the one who maintains the pool; but, I can tell you that it takes lots of chemicals, AND they are expensive !
We have NEVER had a chlorine pool, so I know nothing about them. There is no basis of comparison for me there.
The saline pool smells great and the water does not leave you feeling icky when you get out.
Maybe some of this information has been helpful to you.
Hi! My husband runs a pool company...by stating "saline" do you mean a salt pool? He would love to answer any questions you might have. Email me back when you get the chance ____@____.com
We also have chlorine and wanted to switch to salt but a pool company said the salt rots your pipes. they said people use to have salt water but switched back to chlorine because of that. I hope this helps.
my parents have a saline pool and I like it because it feels better on my skin. Basically the same thing another has said, it doesn't aggrivate eczema.
ChlorKing Incorporated, the leader in saline chlorination, is proud to introduce an exciting, safer and more economical way of maintaining swimming pool and spa water. This revolutionary method of water treatment has completely changed how pools and spas are maintained. No longer is it necessary to handle hazardous chemicals or struggle with large, bulky and heavy containers. The ChlorKing system totally eradicates the need to purchase expensive chlorine.
http://www.chlorking.com/
ChlorKing has developed a patented, on-site hypochlorite generator (chlorinator) that removes the need for expensive and potentially unsafe compounds. We manufacture, distribute, and install these generators as part of overall systems for the chlorination of all sizes of swimming pools and general industrial water treatment. The ChlorKing system has been effectively used in many applications abroad for over 20 years.
ChlorKing has received accreditation from the National Sanitation Foundation for all models of chlorinators that we manufacture. The registered NSF certification Mark on a pool, spa, or hot tub system component confirms that NSF has assessed and certified its conformity with the relevant section of NSF/ANSI standard 50 and UL 1081. In addition, NSF audits each authorized production facility to assure that certified products continue to comply with the appropriate requirements of the standard.
all that I know about this is that my neighbor had a beautiful pool installed at christmas time. They have begun using it, and they love it. he said that it uses Ions to keep the pool clean, and that at the end of the summer (because of all the tan creams) you pour one bottle of regular bleach in the pool and in an hour you can swim! I don't know if this is different than what everyone else is talking about, and I guess he doesn't have enough experience with it, to really know if it will work out for him in the long term. He never mentioned any salt! he said that you don't add anything to it, you just test it and then turn the dial and it adjusts the ions! hope you find your answer!
I just had a salt water pool put in last year and we love it. There is still chlorine involved though, the generator uses the salt to convert to chlorine which keeps your pool clean. You also still need to shock it and that also has chlorine in it. The difference is when swimming your eyes dont burn and you dont smell chlorine, your skin feels better too.
I have one and I love it! Very low maintanance and you are actually softer when you get out!
My mom just put one in and I am SOOOO excited about this summer! The only experience I have had with one is the LaQunita on Nasa 1 in Seabrook and it is a FABULOUS pool! I have also been told by a friend who runs a pool supply place that they are great and easy to maintain.
Best wishes and good for you going 'green' lol
We belong to the YMCA and they switched to saline last summer, but I have noticed they swithched back to chlorine but I don't know why. I shall find out though because my daughter is on the swim team and it is damaging her hair.
We put in a salt water pool last year and we absolutely love it! The water is clear, no chlorine smell, no bleached clothes, no green hair, no burning eyes or itchy skin. It's definitely something I'd recommend.
B.,
My parents have had a salt water pool for a few years now and we love it. When I was a kid we had a chlorine pool. but my parents say that this one is much easier and better. I cam swim underwater with my eyes open even with contacts on!!!!!! It's great. You will have a slight taste of salt on your lips at first, but nothing like ocean water.
We have a salt chlorinator, and we like it. I have 2 small boys (7 & 2) who love the water, so I like that it just pulls the amount of chlorine necessary out of the salt. No green hair or red eyes, and no chlorine smell. Doesn't bleach out your swimsuits, either. You can taste very little salt in the water, nowhere near that of ocean water. In our Central TX area, the water is so basic, though, we are constantly having to add acid to keep the pH balanced. Other than that, maintenance is minimal and we would never go back.
I am so glad that you asked this question. I didn't know of this option and thought I was going to have to give up my swimming pool. Yea!! Thanks for showing me another way. Now I have some research to do!! Can you tell me some good resources you have found?
Thanks!!!
Blessings,
M.

I don't think you can just change from a chlorine pool to a salt water pool. I think the pump mechanism, etc... is totally different. Maybe I'm wrong. But my brother in law has one and it's gorgeous. Much cheaper to operate, no chemicals, no burning eyes. Easy to own. It's great!
Hi!
I actually own a pool cleaning business and the salt water pools are great for your skin, but it's very bad for your equipement. It can corrode your pipes underground and then it can be very costly to fix. The salt water generate which converts the salt to cholrine is very expensive costing about $2000.00 to replace and it has to be cleaned about every 6 months. While there is not actual use of cholrine the salt is converted to chlorine. All the other chemicals are the same. I currently have about 3-4 customers with salt water pools and they are all wanting to convert there pools back to the traditional way due to cost since about about 2 years there equipement is starting to fail and corrode which is not covered under any warrenty. If you need a quote on getting a system installed let me know. Beth with Aqua Tech Pool Services. ###-###-#### or ###-###-####
Hi B.
We have a saline pool in our backyard and love it. We've had it for 4 years and it is very low maintenance. My children don't smell like chlorine and their eyes are not burned (red) when they get out. I would recommend a salt system to anyone. It is definitely worth the money!
We converted ours a couple of years ago. The cost was about $1000 and soooooo worth it. You will no longer have to pay a pool company to service your pool - the maintenance is easy - a minimally handy hubby can take care of it (empty the baskets, test the water, rinse the filter). Now when we go to others pools we are so overwhelmed by the chlorine smell - even the towels used by their children and then put in laundry room make their whole house smell like chlorine - yuck!
Check this company out, http://www.ecopoolcompanynet.net, they should be able to answer your questions about the benefits of this type of pool
i don't have a pool, but my mother-in-law and her husband have one. so does my sister-in-law and her husband. both have saline pools. my mother in law converted hers last summer after my sister-in-law put in their pool. they started out with it as a saline pool. they are both very happy with them, and have no complaints.
I don't own one, but I've only heard many, many good things about them. If you live in or near Angleton, the Angleton Recreation Center pool just converted to saltwater two weeks ago and everyone loves it.
Hi B.,
I wouldn't have any other kind of pool but saline. My husband and I have built two pools in our lifetime and would never own a chlorine pool! If you would like more info contact me. I will be happy to answer any questions.
B.,
Our kids have severe eczema so we switched over to a saline pool. We absolutely love it! No complaints here. I think maintenance is about the same, we have a service take care of it, but he is only here about 15 min a week. I have noticed how nice my skin and hair are after swimming compared to the chlorine pool!
...hope I helped.
Saline pools aren't chlorine-free. The salt is used to generate chlorine. There are pools that use ozone that are virtually chemical-free.
