I don't know about tummy tuck but after my hysterectomy in 2001 I was a NEW WOMAN.
I have never felt or looked better in my life!
I was recently informed by my doctor that I will need a partial hysterectomy. As I researched the procedure, I found that in some cases an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)can be performed at the same time, in many cases with better results than a separate procedure.
Does anyone know how the insurance issues work and how to coordinate it with the surgeons?

I don't know about the insurance portion of your question, however you may want to check with your doctor first to see if he/she is even interested or able to help you with this. Some will just not allow extra procedures on "their watch" but it certainly never hurts to ask.
I do want to give you some encouragement with regards to the hysterectomy. I felt like a NEW WOMAN after I had mine. I was quite sick prior to the surgery so afterward I felt better almost immediately even with the 11 in incision in my tummy. I will sure pray for you. :)
Jennifer's response is correct regarding the fees/coordinating surgeons.
I also work for a plastic surgeon who performs an abdominoplasty in conjunction with another surgeon's hysterectomy. He receives many referrals for tummy tucks because of how smoothly patients recover after surgery.

I too am considering a hysterectomy it would be my 14 th in and out surgery suffer from endometriosis. Anyway let me know what others say because my tummy needs a tuck after c-section also would rather do it in one surgery than two tired of surgeries. Sadly I still want another baby but body and economy just doesn't want to cooperate.
A little bit about myself married to a wonderful caring man that is my soul mate and have a step son who is nineteen and a young six year old daughter S.
Hello, T.,
I had those two procedures at the same time about 23 years ago. The two doctors were able to use the same hospital and the insurance paid for everything but the plastic surgeons fee.
I was very pleased with the results.
I wish you the best,
M.
Yes, you can have both procedures done at the same time. I work for a Plastic Surgeon and he does this frequently. The only thing is you have to find a plastic surgeon who has surgical privliages at the same hospital you are planning to have you hysterectomy. Insurance companies are very smart and they will ONLY PAY for the hysterectomy portion of your surgery. You will have to pay for the anesthesiologist, hospital fee, and of course the surgeon's fee as related to the abdominoplasty portion of the surgery.
When I had my hysterectomy, my doctor was going to 'throw it in' as part of the procedure. No extra doctors, no extra bills. However, I ended up being able to have the hysterectomy vaginally (a little disappointing, but the recuperation time was MUCH better). My doctor told me that combining the procedures was much easier on the body than having them done separately - so, talk to the doctor that's handling the hysterectomy and see if (s)he's had any experience with doing a tummy tuck at the same time the hysterectomy is being done. From what I understand, a small tummy tuck at the same time is general practice around here.
Good luck!
Hi T.,
You are correct. You can have both at the same time.
I had hysterectomy 3 weeks ago (Dec 15th) and I was offered tummy tuck at the same time. I decided not to do right now because I need to lose weight and I am still paying medical bills from another surgery I had in August, but i heard great things about both procedures at the same time.

I am feeling great, I had full hysterectomy.
Keep in touch, feel free to ask me more questions!
