Sounds like it could be celiac disease, sometimes called celiac sprue. It's an intolerance (allergy) to gluten: wheat, barley, rye, etc. Since these products are in so many things, every meal could set it off. There is a wealth of information available on the internet if you google celiac sprue, or gluten intolerance. Check his symptoms there.

I can't believe his doctor would want him to go through that every day. Might want to consider a new doctor.

Take care,
Ali

I also have a friend that was diagnosed with IBS and food allergies she never knew she had. She was advised to keep a food journal to keep track of what she ate and when she got sick. She took that back to the doctor so he could help her review it and find her problem. She has been able to avoid "getting sick" most of the time by avoiding the foods she is allergic to, or you could say the foods she has a low tolerance to b/c some foods made her sicker than others. I would keep the food journal for a week and get a second opinon from another doctor. Good luck!

I was thinking it sounds like Celiac disease too. I have a good friend whose son is about the same age and he was diagnosed with it last year. They battled sickness and weight loss and even a decline in growth for over a year before it was finally diagnosed. He's been on his new diet for almost a year now & he's doing awesome! I don't think it's something that a lot of doctors know to look for. Sounds like your doctor isn't very open though, so I'd switch doctors and then ask the new doctor about it. I'd be happy to ask my friend what doctor she takes her son to if you're interested.
