Aquaphor always works best for us. Vasoline too but Aquaphor is better. We've been using it since my 3yr old was a baby! Good luck and Congrats!
My daughter has had a perpetual runny nose for the past 2 months. The skin between her nose and mouth is soo red and chapped. Any advice on what is safe to put on it? Keep in mind she puts everything in her mouth still. I have been using Lansinoh (I know that was safe when I was breastfeeding). I'd welcome any other suggestions!
Thank you for all your responses!! Based on the suggestions, I used Aquaphor and it did work quite well! I put that on her at night, and still used the Lansinoh during the day. She is all healed up! I really appreciate each of you taking the time to respond to my question!

Hi, my name is J. and I had the same problem with my little girl when she was little and the thing that worked and was safe was plain vaseline. Hope this works!!
Aquaphor is what works for us.
From M. -mom of 4 year old wonderful boy and a 4 month old gorgeous girl
Mary Kay night time enrollment cream. It is awesome! I use it on all my family when they get chapped. If you do not start it right away it might burn alittle but, I think most will when your skin is so chapped. It works really quick.
I represent a company called BeautiControl and we have a fabulous lip balm product that does not contain alcohol. It is rich in Vitamin C and wheat germ oil so it is very healing. Better than vaseline or chapstick (they do contain alcohol which is drying and you need to keep re-appling them) Let me know if you are interested. Call###-###-#### or e-mail ____@____.com Hope to hear from you soon!

Aqauphor helps us with the exact same problem. Good luck, hope your baby can get some relief soon, poor thing!
I have always used Aquaphor on my girls when they had chapped lips and or cheeks. I have even used it on their bottoms when they have gotten red or sore. You can get it at any local drugstore. We have had great luck with it.
Bert's Bees Res-Q ointment. It's amazing and totally safe. Do you know the cause of the runny nose? For my daughter, it was soy milk allergy...
Hi M.,
I use Vanicream on my sking beause I have allergies and have to be careful. It has no preservatives, scent or lanolin in it. I even use it on my lips because chap sticks seem to only make them worse. I especially use it at bedtime. My dermatologist recommended it. They use it to formulate salves at the drugstore and I had to ask at the pharmacy for it. I got a big pump jar for $14.00 or so. I got it at War-Mart.
When my son was little the pediatrician recommended Aquaphor when he had skin problems. It seems to be very water-proof.
Hope one of those things works.
J. M.
I have a 7 month old son who has had very chapped cheeks all winter I've been using Aquaphor by Eucherin and it has worked very well if applied often. It says that it can be used on chapeed lips so I assume that if they were to injest a little it would be fine.
I think aquaphor soaks in better then vaseline so you don't have as much grease to get smeared everywhere.
I am so sorry that your baby was going through that and I know that makes you feel so helpless but...I found that using a cool wash cloth to lay on the area for a few seconds....then apply a little bit of aloe vera gel/or the plant. Even a little vaseline/petroleum jelly is actually very soothing, and most times the aloe heals and soothes any type of skin burn...hope one of these works for you.
Use Lanisoh nipple cream... it's pure medical-grade lanolin and works great on chapped skin and other owies! It has become my "cure-all" for just about EVERYTHING!
Regular vaseline or baby neosporin helped my little girl's chin. It was sooo red from her drooling around teething time. The best time to put it on is before bed so it actually stays on and does its job.
Have you tried chap stick? May sound silly but my son ian gets chappe cheeks and we use chap stick on them and they clear right up.
I would think that aloe would be wonderful on your baby's face. I am a consultant for the body shop at home and all of our products are completely edible. We have an ale protective serum that would be wonderful. Check it out on my website at www.thebodyshopathome.com/web/aoaks. Aloe is excellent for all kinds of skin irritations and is very good for sensitive skin.
vaseline is o.k. to use. i used to use it on my kids when they were small and their skin used to get red and chapped between their nose and mouth. it worked for them, give it a try and see what happens.
When I get red between my nose and mouth, I use a saline gel on it to help. They have it at CVS, or walgreens.... It should be safe, since it is only saline.
Some of my friends prefer aquifor (sp?) which seems to work like vasline, but is slightly less greasy. I hope this helps.
Did you ask the Ped or family doctor. That would be first, because you want to make sure it has not turned into an unlying infection, that might need an antibotic type med. (Like a special cream or something.) Calling the doctor would be the first move. Hope this helps
In Gods Love and Grace: D.
I would try aquaphor, that is working well on my son's chapped cheeks
Aquaphor works wonders! It is a little pricey, but it is well worth it. It even works great on chapped lips. You could try asking your doctor or pediatrician if they currently have any samples. Wood County Pediatrics actually had little sample tubes in the patient rooms.
My son is now 9 months old.My doctor told me to use vaseline it is even safe to use a little on their lips.
My doctor told us to use Aquaphore. It is at any drug store. We put it on cheeks, chin, nose, and chapped hands from sucking thumb.
A simple solution for me was to use vaseline a couple of times a day on the dry area. It really helped for my son.
I have one son. He's 2 1/2 now and is the love of my life. I work full time and miss his while i'm there.
I loooove Aquaphor for almost everything. Great on dry skin and small cuts. Heals them almost overnight. Tried it on my oldest son's dry lips once and he hated it though. Then tried on myself and it does taste bad. Works great on the skin though!
Have you tried a thin layer of vasoline?
Definately use the Lansinoh!! It is safe for her to get in her mouth and it is wonderful for any chapped skin. You can use it on chapped lips as well.
I used good old fashioned Neosporin ointment and cream for almost everything like this for my daughter. The ointment would be better here versus the cream which absorbs straight into the skin. It does not hurt to use it on yourself as well and it never hurt my daughter or me with our sensitive skin no matter where I used it. She is now a bouncy 9 year old and goes straight for it if she needs it. As a bonus there is no flavor or smell.
how bout a dab of castor oil? (translation--Palma of christi)Palm of Christ. old edgar cayce remedy. endorsed by the Association for Research and Enlightenment.

Wow, you've had a huge response! I don't know if anyone suggested this or not, but I sometimes use Vitamin E oil on chapped lips and skin under and around the nose.
I have found good ole Vaseline works great and does not harm them if they eat a bit. Gob it on, I use it on my kids bottoms, dry skin, rashes etc. (my daughter had a licking around her lips thing going on for a few months, and that kept the redness and chapping down to a minimum)
I always use Aquafor on my son. It can cost more than others but a little goes a long way! It was also recommended by my pediatrician.
Aquaphor!!!!! I'ts like vaseline, but with a little bit of lanolin. Works wonders on my son's chapped face. I reapply as often as 4x/day when he's really red.
Have you tried Aquaphor....it's amazing!!!!
Try Aquaphor - and it is safe for the baby as well. I just used it on my son and his face looked 100% overnight!
Aquaphor for sure!
I am with alot of other folks- I recommend Aquaphor for just about anything. I have used it on face, hands, diaper rash, my own dry feet...and on and on...It is really miracuous stuff.
Lansinoh is available over the counter at the local drug store. That's probably the best ointment you will find for chapped lips. I still use it even though I haven't produced milk for a few years.
You can try a lip balm, but it won't sink into the skin or stay-put after baby sucks on toys or her fingers as well as lansinoh.
Vaseline always worked great for my four boys when they would get chapped lips or face!
AQUAPHOR!! it works great. it's not medicated so it's safe for the face. it's specifically for dry, chapped sking. you can apply it as many times a day as needed.
Chapstick for lips works very well on the nose, and btw.!!
Put it on with your finger.

Both of my children have severe chapped cheeks during the winter and we have tried 2 things and have tried almost every product out there. Auquaphor works well (brand name works better than off brand for some reason). The best thing I have tried is creamy vaseline from Dollar General it works for chapped cheeks as well as chapped noses from colds. It is about $1.50 per tube and works great and is not nearly as expensive as Auquaphor.
Aquafor (sp?) works well. My daughters have the same issues - their faces are usually dry and chapped under the nose and aroudn the mouth all winter. We've used that for two winters in a row - mainly put a lot on right before bed.
Aquaphor by Eucerin is the best - it can be used everywhere. I have 4 children and we can't live without it. It works for diaper rash, chapped cheeks, and chapped lips. It can be found in the baby section or in the lotion section.
I suggest Lansinoh, the same ointment you use for dry chapped nipples. It's safe, non greasy and works great. I use it for all dry spots. Aquaphor stays greasy and doesn't absorb, same as vasoline.
Vaseline works great, keeps moisture out and protects baby's skin.... Let me know how this works. Good Luck

Hello. Gerber makes a moisturizing stick called Teeny Faces. It works wonders! My pediatrian recommended it when my first son had chapped skin around his lips because he kept licking them in the winter. I found it a Baby's R' Us but I don't know if they sell it anywhere else. Good Luck!
try Aquaphor. It works wonders.
Aquaphor is the best!
I used aquafore by eucerin. It works for everything. My pediatrican recommended it and yes, it is expensive.
my son is older, 7 years, but was licking his lips and the skin around it last year & it chapped up badly. I used Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream on it at bedtime, it was much better each morning! Vaseline would probably work to. At night they lick it much less.
my kids get really bad chaped lips and mouth area too- we have tried everything- but we went back to the lanolin also- it really seems to work the best- our kids are 5,4,and 4 months- i would stick with that:)
Try Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream...!! It is wonderful for very dry skin and relief of eczema type issues as well....for information about it and how to get it go to: www.marykay.com/lacarter01 to find out more information.
It's substance is that of petroleum jelly, but includes beeswax and will not sting...very gentle.
Thanks.
The Lansinoh is great...I know I used it for a ton of things and still do occasionally. Vaseline works well and Aquaphor would be another to try. If it doesn't go away you may need to see the doc and get a Rx ointment. It may be empatigo (sp?) and need an antibiotic or she may have eczema. My daughter has dealt with that around her ears and the Rx clears it up immediately.
Try using some kind of moisturizing lotion specifically for babies. I use "Renew" which was recommended by my boys' allergist but not over the counter. It works great on eczema. I use a barrier over the lotion such as Aquaphor. I put this on every night and sometimes in the morning with my little ones. It helps protect the skin from the excessive runny nose.
Try Aquaphor. I put it on when my son is sleeping and he never even knows it's there.
our family doctor always told us to use vasoline, but to make sure the skin is clean and dry before you put it on. hope this helps
Hi M.,
I am a grandmother who raised 2 handsome male children. Whenever they had colds and dry skin, Vaseline was and still is my main staple (I still use it on my grandchildren and myself). It is safe.
L. M
Another vote for Aquaphor! My daughter suffered from "binky mouth" and our pediatrician's office told me it was safe to use on her face.
Aquaphor or Vaseline works great for me! It's safe and soothing.
I have always used Aquaphor on my son, it is a little pricey but we have had the same container for almost 3 yrs and it works almost instantly. I put it on hisface when it gets chapped and on his nose when it gets red and the next morning it looks better.
M.,
I have a special needs little boy and he always putting his fingers in his mouth and does a lot of slobbering. This causes red sores around his mouth. I found that Aquaphor healing ointment works great. It will not hurt her at all. I hope it will work for you. You should be able to get it most any where. Good luck.
Try virgin coconut oil, which you can buy in almost any health food store. It's ideal for all skin conditions. It has natural antimicrobial and antibiotic properties, and it will usually heal lesions within days. It's obviously safe to eat, since it's a cooking oil!
You'll be so impressed, you'll want to use it too. Think of the tropical women with smooth skin and smooth, shiny hair. In their native cultures, they use pure, virgin coconut oil on their skin and hair regularly.
If you try it, let us know how it works for you!
Also, go to the library and look for the book, "The Coconut Oil Miracle," by Bruce Fife, C.N., N.D.
Good luck!
A friend on mine recently told me about virgin coconut oil. It has done wonders for my son. His dry face and even diaper rash. It seems to heal the skin very quickly. I found it at Walmart for around $4 for 16oz. Even with the worst of skin conditions the only complaint form my son has been that it is cold when it goes on. It is in solid form and melts when it touches the skin. Hope this helps.
A little about me: I am a SAHM of 4. Ages 6,4 1/2, 2, 3mo.
Hello M., I have a teeny faces moisturizing stick that I absolutely love.... I have had it so long I couldnt tell you where I got it, but it is made by Gerber. B.
hi you might want to try some vasaline or none medicated chap stick or a little lotion with aloe in it
hope this helps
my friend's baby had the same problem too and she used the vasaline it seemed to help too
I use diaper rash cream on my dd's face. She gets really chapped cheeks and she constantly chews on her bottom lip. We use either the clear Desitin or Balmex. It really works wonders! You don't need a ton, just a little tiny dab. It protects their skin while soothing. I have Aquaphor, but honestly the diaper rash cream works just as well. And it's something you probably already have. If you're worried about her getting it in her mouth, try using it at night before she goes to bed. That way she won't get it in her mouth.
I've never heard of Aquaphor, but petrolium jelly would be what I would suggest.
petroleum jelly, petroleum jelly, petroleum jelly!!!
it's cheep, is all natural, has no taste, no smell, doesn't burn or sting (you can find it in any self care area of a store, usually near the lotion).
Vaseline ointment (in tube) or Neosporin or Polysporin. All will help to heal the skin and not be harmful if a bit is swallowed. You can even put some on a Q-tip and put on her while sleeping!
Aquaphor is awesome. It is safe and it soothes and protects the skin. My son actually asks me to put it on him. Good Luck.
My daughter had the same issue. I put some Arbonne diaper rash cream there between her lip and nose, and it was cleared up within a day. Arbonne is a more natural skin care company; it bases its products on botanicals and is very safe.
My girls get this too. When the go down for a nap or to sleep at night I dry under their nose (by blotting gently) then apply vasoline. That has seemed to work really well for me-but the Lansinoh should work the same way-just dry well first. Hope that helps. A.
My daughter had been getting dry skin around her mouth and I used Vaseline. It started to clear away the dryness and redness by the next day. You could also try a vaseline-like product called bag balm. Ask your local pharmacist about it. Just make sure to rub it into the skin well and I don't think it is toxic.
hi Michelle-
Try Aquaphor- I think it works great-
good luck
My 8 month old daughter has the same problem and I use Aquaphor. It is kind of expensive but it is well worth it. It will clear it up within a few days and works for dry skin on anyone. Hope this helps. S. N.
Hi M.,
My name is L. Goins and I am the mother of four girls. I have recently been introduced to a water purification system that makes alkaline and acidic water. The water actually is barely different than normal tap water in appearance and taste. However, the acidic water has excellent healing abilities. It easily clears up rashes, cuts and infections...and it's just water!!!
I gave some acidic water to a friend of mine that had the exact same problem with her 6 year old son. After spraying a little water on his nose while he slept, the sore redness nearly cleared up overnight.
Please let me know if this appeals to you. I no longer use any kind of anti-biotic creams or anything on my kids - only the water. It cleans up cuts wonderfully, and I don't have to worry about my kids getting into anything that will hurt them.
L. Goins
My pediatrician gave me little tubes of Aquaphor which works great, my baby has the same problem constanatly. It works great!!!
Good luck!!!
I've used just plain vaseline on my kids and it's worked wonderful.
Hi M.,
I have used Vitamin E Oil on my kids, grandkids and other children I have watched. Its natural and you can buy a big bottle at Bassets Health Store on Secor in Toledo, or I'm sure other health stores have it. The cost is around $9.00. But like I said its all natural and safe and it really works usually the first time applied. All you need to do is rub a little on the chapped areas. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
K.
I have an 11 mo. old granddaughter.
I use Nivea creme (not lotion) on her dry skin. It also works great for diaper rash.
It is a little bit expensive, but very worth it!!

I am Arbonne Independent consultant. We carry a line of baby skin care products that are pure, safe, and beneficial. The baby skin care products contain five key ingredients that relieve dryness and irritation: Retinyl Palmitate (vitamin A) which keeps the skin soft. It is a skin moisturizer, Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E) which protects the skin. It absorbs several layers down in the skin, Aloe - a true moisturizer which forms a barrier on the skin to prevent moisture loss, Orange Oil and Orange Blossom Oil - soothes skin with its anit-inflammatory properties, and cedarwood Oil - is also calms the skin and releases tension. I use the baby line of products on my children and have had much success with keeping their skin very well moisturized. I have several clients who have also started using the baby lotion on their babies and have seen an improvement in the skin. Arbonne has a 45 day return policy. If you would be interested in trying the product and are not happy with it, Arbonne will refund your money. I hope this helps and good luck.
Aquaphor is completely safe and wonderful to use around the mouth. It also works great on diaper rashes.
