Hi B.! I happen to work for a group of Ophthalmologists in SLO! We have one of the finest Pediatric Ophthalmologists in our practice! I have assisted in many of these types of procedures, and I can tell you that each case is very individual, personal, and should be considered from every angle, but first and foremost, you should really know and trust your doctor! I strongly believe that every age should see a practitioner that treats a minimum of 85% of that age group. Meaning, that if your particular doctor only sees small children occasionally, rather than daily, I would seek another physician. The reason behind this, is that someone can be a fantastic doctor, but if they cannot relate to you, than you need to find a doctor who specializes in your particular age group, and for children, they should always be seen by some type of Pediatric Physician!
That being said, this type of lid condition is very common, and the procedure that you are describing, sounds typical of the course of treatment. Children often do very well with most surgeries, and bounce back very quickly! But surgery is surgery! If you aren't already a patient of San Luis Obispo Eye Associates, I recommend Dr. Rena Stathacoupolous with the highest compliments. I hope this helped!
