Seeking a Bed Rail That Fits a Twin Bed with No Box Springs

My husband and I would like to transition our 2 1/2 year old daughter into a twin bed this month before our baby is due in November. Our twin bed has a headboard and footboard and only needs a mattress not a box spring. My question is, does anybody know of a bedrail to purchase that will fit onto a twin bed when you don't have a box spring. Most bed rails slide in-between the mattress and box springs. I don't want to use a bolster in fear that she'll fall out or just crawl right over the top. Someone out there has to have come accross this issue. There's got to be a bedrail out there that will fit a bed that only requires a top mattress!

We had the same issue. Twin mattress with no box spring. We bought the Safety 1st Sure Position N Lock Bedrail. It was very secure. It folds down too. It was a bit difficult to get the hang of it but I felt safe with it. Once you get the hang of it, it gets easier. I think target has it.

We had the same issue with my sons bed. I bought a smaller bed rail for the end of the bed (because his fist night he threw himself off the end of the bed - wild sleeper) and a longer one for the side. Both came with still posts coming from them and long white straps that you attach to the other side of the mattress. At the end of the straps was a round steel circle that secured the rails completely to the mattress. My son climbed over the rails all the time and they never fell over. One of the rails was a drop down that you could slide under the mattress. However he had captains bed so under the mattress was a board with drawers under the board. Hope this helps.

S.,

We use The First Years bed rails. I bought them at Target and they are great. My son kicks them and they are still standing tall. They are blue with a mesh middle. I hope this helps!

presently, I have not seen the twin spring on its own. Years ago these were common place in bunkbeds. But....I do have a suggestion. Go to your local home center ( Home Depot, or Lowes) and have them cut a 3/4 sheet of plywood to the dimensions you need. Put the bed frame together, measure the width inside the rail (do NOT allow "slip" space) and also the length (minus an inch). This will provide a very safe base in which to lay the mattress, and will give you the low height you seek. (If you or your husband is handy you could cut this yourself, but I think for the $1 or 2 they charge for cutting lumber, it is easier to have it precut for you....you could also have the length cut in 1/2 for easier transport, it will NOT effect the security once it is in place on the bed frame.)

These are foam bumpers that go under the sheet. I wish I knew about these before I bought those big bulky rails that are such a pain when you have to change the sheets. I bought a set for when we traveled to Florida and my Mom keeps them when the kids sleep at their house. They are so compact they fit in a duffel bag. I am actally going to buy more and get rid of my rails.

Although this is not answering your question, I had read (and I apologize that I cannot cite the source as there is all kinds of conflicting information out there) that bed rails are not necessarily safe for your child.

What we did is put the crib mattress on the floor and move it out from underneath the bed until she stopped falling out of bed. We did it for a month, but I really only think she fell out the first week and nothing after that. By the time she got used to the bed and stayed in bed, our little one arrived, and he is still not in the crib any way.

Our daughter was 25 months when we transitioned her.

I have the bed bug bumpers and I love them. I use them in my 2 year old's bed and have for quite awhile because he was in a 'big boy bed' since he was 1. I wish I would have had them when he was a baby, there are a lot of uses for them.
