HELP!!! I just brought in 2/3 of my sweet corn and am having problems with either my Seal A Meal or me....I even borrowed my MIL's just in case I ran into problems with mine. I sealed half with her and half with mine. Both of them sucked the air out and sealed just fine - great right?!?!! Until a couple hours later and ALL of them have inflated back up. How is that possible? I thought it was suppose to be airtight? I reread the manuel and even went to their website and I did everything like they said. Has anyone else had this problem? HELP!!

What can I do next?

Corn, and many other veggies, emit a gas. In order to freeze veggies you need to blanch them first. BOTH to prevent them from offgassing, and to keep them from turning into mush when you freeze them.

Boil for a few minutes until they turn "bright", and then plunge into cold/icy water to completely cool them. Allow them to dry completely. Place in bags. Vacuum. Freeze.

If you've blanched them and they're still filling with air, then you probably have some pinpricks in your plastic.

Take one of the bags and fill it with water,,check for leaks. A hole will do that. Maybe the seal a meal machine is actually poking a small hole in them. Also, maybe the edge of the sealer has a spot that doesnt seal well and allows air in slowly. Or is there something that fresh picked corn does that emits gas creating air inside the bag? I dont know. My son has a really fancy version of seal a meal. Loves it, but I dont think he has ever done fresh corn.
