We have a number of surface scratches on our wood floor. Is there any way to minimize the scratches without doing major work to the whole floor? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, moms!!!

What can I do next?

An amazing secret to treat the more visible scratches on hardwood.... Rub a macadamia nut over it until it disappears. The oils in the nut and the slight brownness do wonders. I have to thank Martha Stewart for this little trick.
P.S. Other nuts work as well provided they are similar in oiliness and texture to macadamias.

go to the section of the store where mopping / cleanins supplies are kept. there is a product called old english its in a bottle. you can use that. don't pout a lot on. and don't pour it straight on the floor. used a papertowel. put some on put some on the towel and wipe it into the scratches. we use this on our woodwork, floors, kids dressers etc. it comes in a couple different shades from really dark to lighter woods. good luck

I have wood floors also. I usually put down matching rugs in the hall way and kitchen. I am also interested what you have learned from the other moms.

Are they really that bad? We tend to scrutinize our own homes while never noticing something like that in someone else's. A floor will get a little banged up. Sometimes it gives them character!

Sherry, I have to disagree about Old English Oil. I worked at a prominent B&B and the floor didn't take well to cleanup in the area that was treated that way. We used Q-tips lightly tipped with the oil on the scratches, then rubbed it off with a soft cloth, and it took forever to purge it from the wood.

In a hardware store you can find wood crayons. Find the colour close to your floor. Rub a tiny bit against the grain of the scratch, then rub it into the scratch with your finger. Polish as usual. It lasts usually through the next cleaning. The crayons will last for several uses. They are also good for use on other wooden furniture.
