I'm an idiot and haven't done any school supply shopping, running out today! I'm hearing horror stories of people having to go to 5 different stores... anyone have any suggestions on which stores are the most likely to have everything? I imagine I'm going to be doing a good amount of running around but just curious who you recommend!

What can I do next?

Every year I am annoyed with myself for running to different stores and end up at Walgreens wondering why I didn't just go there first!
They have more than you think and usually have some great deals.

I've always found everything I've needed at Target. I do like Staples, as they have some good sales, but they don't always have everything you need.

I found everything I needed at Office Max it was great. One stop shopping. Good luck.

If you need any graph paper, go to Office Depot or Office Max. Those are not necessarily the cheapest places to go though. I usually get the basics at Target and head to Office Depot for the weird stuff like graph paper, fine point flair pens or expandable file folders.

If you are planning to get book covers, your 7 year old is getting close to the age where he might need the jumbo ones. The regular size ones do NOT fit the bigger books. You can get them on the bigger books, but they tear or you can't get the bigger book closed.

Like you, I waited till the last minute to shop and found that Wal-Mart was out of the most basic stuff (Crayons, thin colored markers, index cards and post-its)

Try Wal-Mart still, get what they left and then try moving over to Staples (they are more expensive though)

You might make it with 2 or 3 trips or you might just have to wait a week after school starts to finish while they are replenishing the stock. That's what I'm doing.

Don't shop at just one store if you want to save money!!! Grab a Sunday paper (for a buck at the dollar store if you don't have delivery) and check out the sales ads. Choose the 2 or 3 stores that are closest to you and make your list for each store based on who has the items cheapest. This may take an extra hour in your day, but it will save you tons of money!

If you live in Wheaton, Shop Carlson's for their pre-filled bag. If not, I had to shop 3 stores. I've never tried Staples. I have tried Office Depot, Target and Carlson's. Good luck.
