Just talk with the teacher asap. She/He'll let you know. We don't have parents do anything before the field trip.

My children's school requires a backgroung check, and form filled out releasing them from any responsiblity if you get hurt and saying that you are a volunteer and not working for the school. I always make sure I have a small package of tissue and wipes with me, makes some things easier. Depending on the age of the children. I even do that with the Girl Scouts for trips and cookie booths. I dn't have to look for bathrooms for runny noses and such.

Have fun call the teacher and enjoy.

I would ask your child's teacher or call the school office. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do.

As an elementary school teacher, background checks have become routine in the last 2-3 ypears. At my school, it is simple a paper you fill out with your information and the office can verify the information on the form. I have never heard of taking a class to attend/drive on a field trip. I would recommend just signing up. Any responsible teacher will send back a letter expaining when to arrive, where you are going/driving/walking, the time, and what children you will be responsible to watch over. If the teacher does not, feel free to send ina little letter before hand asking these questions. Teachers nor parents like suprises on field trips!

Hi T. -

Every district is different. I had to do a background check and driving record check before I could chaperone a field trip. Check with your childs teacher or the office on Tuesday.

The district I live in requires a background check be done each year. There is one short form with name, address, phone and drivers license and a signiture giving the school permision to do the check. They are not checking your credit, just court and police records. It's very simple, have fun on the field trip!

I have been going on field trips with my children since they were in pre-school. I have never had to take a class but in the beginning of the year our school send out a form for a background check. I you do not send it back in and then decide to go on a trip now they send out the form again. Basically it is to check to see if you have a criminal record especialy a crime dealing with childern. If you do not have this you are fine. Then when on the trip you get assigned a group of children to look after it is easy. Have fun !

As far as I know you just have to clear it with the teacher, and fill out the form for a background check with the office. It does need to be renewed every year (which for me is aggravating since I have to fill it out once for every child (five in school this next school year with one more waiting to go), not only because it is a waste of time, but because I know they're paying extra money to have my background checked for each slip!) Sorry! Needed to vent for a second I guess, Lol. Anyway, the process for being able to go on field trips is pretty simple :) Have fun!

My daughters preschool required background checks to volunteer in the classroom - and I went through the process. However, I did learn this Spring when my mom wanted to go with my daughter that you did not need to have the background check. I asked the teacher if she needed to have the check done first (and there wasn't the time to get one) I was told that for field trips they didn't need them. I would check with your daughters school or teacher to see what they tell you. You will never know if you don't ask - each school district is different.

T.,
I have attended many field trips and have never had a background check or had to take a class. Usually a note comes home with the child with the details of the trip and asks for chaperones. One thing I do take is a bag with a camera, jacket(depending on weather), tissues, wet wipes ,bottle of water, and hand sanitizer. Its also a good place for your sack lunch, sometimes if you put them with everyones else's they get squished. Another thing I always put in the bag if the children are younger is an extra pair of sweat pants in case any one has an "accident". Nothing worse than being stuck in wet pants all day and I always feel bad cuz they could get teased. Field trips are one of my favorite things to do with kids during the school year, hope you have a great time!

no you don't have to take a class for it. Just make sure the childern you are in charge of listen to you and they have a good time. Sometimes the school might sak you to have a background check but not always just certain field trips require that. Just have fun

For Catholic schools you have to take a class and fill out a back ground check. We took our kids out of the catholic school system this year and we have not had to do either at the new school which is public. but i know some schools require back ground checks but it takes like two minutes. not a big deal at all. But I have never ever heard of a public school having to do a class. In fact its only been within the past two years or so that Catholic schools started making people take that class. Some may still be holding out on that but I don't think so. Hope I helped Good Luck.

Call the school on Tuesday, they'll tell you.
I would wear good walking shoes and bring your camera for pictures. Bring some hand sanitizer and some wet wipes, just incase someone needs them.

Hope you have a great time,

Hi T.,
I am the room mom for my 8 y/o daughters 2nd grade class. As long as it's a public school you should just have to sign up unless you are driving the kids in your own car they might ask for your drivers record. When she was in preschool at the beging of the year we all had to turn those in before we could take any of the kids in our cars. But that was a private preschool. Your best bet would be to call up to the school office and ask. They should have all the info you need.
Enjoy the field trip!

Unless things have changed drastically(which they might have, it has been about 13 yrs since then), I have been on many field trips with my daughter's schools and I was never asked anything except "please be there!" Call the school and ask if there are any requirements for parents going on this field trip. It is great that you want to go with your daughter's class. I went on many field trips and it was a great experience for all of us!

I am a teacher in a public school and all you have to do in our district is sign up - and do it quickly. Chaperone spots fill up fast. I recommend you do it NOW. Enjoy the trip - it is always a great experience to see your child in "action" at school and actively learning and growing.

Have Fun!

Ask the teacher. She should be able to tell you. I never once had to do any background check or take a class to attend a field trip with any of my kids. A notice was sent out to parents asking if there were any interested to attend. Once or twice I signed up, we went, end of story.

So ask; it's the best way to know for sure.

Have fun!

In the district I work for, you need to have a background check. It's quick! You fill out a short paper (name, DOB, address, Driver's license.) They check the sex offender registry and criminal background history. Then you're all set. Our form asks which schools you have children in and then your results go to each building so you only have to do it once.

Have a good time.

You usually just sign up I have never had to take a class or have a background check done. It seems like the teacher would let you know what was required.

Hi,
I have never had to do anything like that and I have been going on field trips for 9 years! Usually the teachers just need a couple extra eyes and hands. They might assign you a small group kids but you still usually all stay together. Definitely do it your daughter will love you being there. It is also a great way to get to know the kids in her class!!

Your school will tell you this. Our school does have a class that we need to attend (Protect Our Children), but I'm not sure all schools do. Call the school office...they'll let you know what you need to do.

HI T.,
I am a first grade teacher and on my permission slips all the parents need to do is sign up and I verify what time they need to be there. My school district does not have background checks unless you are driving the children personally. The teacher should notify you of all the things you need to do. Can you email her/him over the weekend? I check my email a couple times a day if parents have questions or concerns. Have a wonderful time. It is so much fun to have parents volunteer in the classroom.

No, I have went on hundreds of field trips throughout the years and also volunteer alot at the schools and never had a background check. What most schools do is have you sign in at the office and wear a name tag.

Have Fun!
