Being raised out of state and then moving here I've never heard of a bad school district in Minnesota. I personally would never have my child in the Mpls. or St.Paul school district because it's to big and to diverse but all the suburbs have excellant school districts from what I've seen and heard. I have heard the Hopkins/Minnetonka dist.is really good, but I live in Burnsville and have no major problems my kindergartener has 21 in her class which is a low number to me.

Hi you can try these:

www.greatschools.net
www.schoolmatch.com
education.state.mn.us (MN Dept of Education)

Also, get a realtor with kids, they'll likely have a better idea of the districts. A good indicator of a good school district is the housing prices. It's the whole get what you pay for philosophy. Beware of aging populations - the old folks won't be eager to pay for your schools. On the other hand growing populations can get really spendy with building of schools, etc. Hope this helps - LOL!

I teach in district 196 and I think it is an excellent district--from teachers to administrators to school board members. We live in Mpls right now, but will move into the district before our 2 year old becomes school age.

I also grew up in the Hopkins district (270) and it is also a highly regarded district. I loved it!

From my understanding, 196 is a good district. They're introducing three magnet elementary schools next year, open district wide for enrollment.

I teach for Minneapolis Public Schools - there are wonderful things going on in both Minneapolis and St. Paul Public Schools - the great schools website that was suggested is really good. I have never heard anything bad about a particular suburban school district in the twin cities - I'd look more at a particular school instead of the entire district b/c each school can be SO different and there are so many more options now...magnets, charters, etc. Good luck!!
