School Binders

Have you found a school binder that really holds up? My boys both have to have a binder that zips up that has a large 3 ring notebook and divided section for loose papers. Every year about this time (or earlier) the dang binder starts to break. Now I know that my boys are being hard on these items and I don't expect them to last more than 1 school year, but PLEASE last for that 9 month period!!

Any suggestions for great binder makers? August will be here before we know it and I'll need to be buying them all over again.

Thanks!!

M.

Nope I never found 1 that held up but my hubby use to duct tape them together and the kids would decorate with stickers of picture drawn in pen.

Nope. When I buy school supplies in the fall, I generally buy 2 binders per kid knowing one will fall apart halfway. Their binders are carried to almost every class, all day, all year.

I buy the good quality type too. The cheap ones would only last a quarter of the year and I'd need 4, so the price is the same to just get 2 better models.

This year, my younger son didn't want to use a new binder halway through the year. He happily duct taped the heck out of the old one when it started to come apart and added his own doodles.

Our daughter was also rough on her binder. It was something she used every day during the school year, and yes, at about this time it started to fall apart. I used to give her a choice, purchase a brand new one at this time of year and use it in the Fall or, duct tape or if the hooks had failed, go to goodwill and look for one there.

We didn't usually have the requirement for it to zip, but we got most of the kids' supplies like that at Staples. Maybe ask them for something professional that might be more sturdy?

Funny you brought this up - my son just pulled out his torn one (Reebok) yesterday. That was from Staples and $. It split right down the side. Granted, he's not that easy on his stuff ..

We had Lands End binders a few years ago. Camo colored. They are still going strong. Problem was, they weren't big enough for middle school (fine for elementary). Not sure if they still make them. I think I bought them so that I could get free shipping.

The main trouble is that stuff builds up and they carry too much in them.
Binders have a finite capacity.
They need to be cleaned out regularly so only the relevant stuff is kept (only current classes and things they need to study for upcoming tests).
Keep a box around for keeping the papers taken out of the binder(s) and when summer vacation starts you can toss most of that out (that way you won't lose info they might need before the year ends).
When you carry around a whole year of papers and mash it all into a backpack it doesn't take much for it all to reach critical mass and it explodes.

Unfortunately no. Even as a teacher, I will go through 2-3 binders per year with the ones that I use regularly.
