I am about 5 weeks along, and I have mild cramping throughout the day. Should I be worried about a miscarriage?

What can I do next?

I cramped a lot with both my pregnancies in the early weeks, even had light bleeding, and now have 2 healthy kids. Try to relax!

It's not uncommon to have some cramping this early. It's not even uncommon to have a little spotting even. Of course, if it would make you feel better to call your OB/GYN, by all means do it. Whatever you need to make yourself feel relaxed and stress free...do it!

Congratulations on your pregnancy, btw!!

I had cramping early in my pregnancies, and never had a miscarriage. As long as it's mild I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, worrying won't help anyway! Try to relax and think positive. :) Best wishes to you.

(Of course, contact your OB/GYN if it gets bad.)

Hi A.
I think all Mamas to be are nervous about miscarriage, something going wrong etc. Its natural maternal instinct. I had mild cramping also and now at 31 weeks lots of aches and pains that now has me worried that baba will come early LOL.
Congrats and enjoy

If this is your first pregnancy, and your stomach muscles are very strong and fit, then your cramping is most likely from the muscles being stretched. Try to do some stretches and gentle massaging to help get them to relax a little bit. But most important is for your mind to be relaxed, so if you are worried, I second what the others have said, call your doc.
Good luck!

Unfortunately there is not much that can be done that early in a pregnancy. I experienced the same thing and lost my baby 2 weeks ago. I was 5 months along but had mild pain throughout. Even at 5 months, there was not much to be done. Try to take it really easy, make sure to take your vitamins and overall just remain calm. Oh and don't forget to pray! Good luck!

With all four of my pregnancies I've had cramping throughout the first trimester. It's completely normal. You've got to figure that muscle now has a little person attached to it and it's trying to get stronger by exercising.

Cramping could mean implantation. If you start spotting call OB right away. Otherwise, this is pretty normal at least I experienced what you are going through right now.

Hi A.,

I had and still have some mild cramping and I'm going to be 11 weeks this Sunday. I also had some minor spotting in the beginning but it was due to implantation. I've had 3 sonograms so far since I was 5 weeks and all was good. I did have some sharp pain come and go and it was due to a cyst that normally developes in early pregnancy and then goes away. What I did though was found a great obgyn and and told him what was going on a he checked just to make sure the baby was growing ok and that my HCG level was doubling every other day. Just to ease your mind, find a good OB and let him know what's going on. It's never overboard just to be on the safe side. If your cramps gets worse(either it be in the middle or located on one side), bleeding starts to occur, back pain or shoulder pain or anything that comes up that you question then call your OB, if you don't have an OB then go to the emergency room. It's is very ok to have concerns, this is your first pregnancy which makes it a bit more scary since you have never been through anything like this before. I am enduring my 4th pregnancy now and have still been scared with things happening but some things just were normal. If you have any questions then please send me a message if you need anything at all or just want to talk anytime! Sometimes its nice to have another pregnant friend to talk to. :) Congratulations with your pregnancy A. and best wishes to you sweetie!

I cramped and bled and my daughter is 4! Just take it easy and rest. Your body will go through and get you through things you never knew you could do! Good luck!

I had the WORST cramps of my life and swore my period was coming, but it never did and I ended up pregnant! I had cramping in the early weeks of pregnancy and all was fine. If you have any concerns, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to call the ob/gyn and ask a question. If your doctor won't do this for you, I would change docs. The majority of all ob/gyns will give medical advice over the phone (as long as you are their patient). I know it is hard, but there is no point in worrying yourself when you have no idea what a doctor will say. Congratulations on the new baby!

Early on, it's just your body preparing for the pregnancy, and you're probably going to be more sensitive to it since your body has never been through this before. Congratulations and best of luck!
