Hi Moms, First of all, I love scars - but.... my almost 8 month daughter scratched her cheek with her toenail about 5 months ago. It has turned into a little raised scar. Her birthmom is African American - I know they can get raised scars - I forget what they are called - ketoids?? Anyway, is there anything to minimize these? My daughter is VERY active - already trying to walk and can stand on her own and tries to climb anything and everything. I know there will probably be lots of little injuries - If there is a way to keep her skin from getting too scarred up before she's a teenager?

The same happened to my daughter. go to your pharmacy and buy Mederma. It is a bit costly but worth it. Get the one for kids. You dab a bit on daily. It is just for the reason you write...minimizing scars. Be faithful with it, too. my daughter's face is good as new!

My daughter is "mixed" so I was very concerned when she split her forehead open, the scar was huge. Her doctor told us to keep the scar out of direct sunlight, so when she was outside, I would put a visor on her. And about 3 - 5 times a day, I applied vitamin E oil on it. The scar healed nicely and the rised skin went down.
It took a long time though, this happened when she was 2 and she's now 3.

I used Mederma on a bad scar I had around my belly button for years and surprisingly I saw really great results; It's barely noticeable now ! So I could imagine what great results you can get from a newer scar.

Wishing you the best,
H.

Hi there, my baby ran into a corner the day after Christmas and had an awful scar in the middle of her forehead. I agree with everyone else about the Mederma. It works great. You can even get the knock off kind at Target or Walmart, it works just the same. Now her scar is bearely noticeable, but it did take many, many months. And also be sure to put sunblock on the scar when you go out.

Hi,
My dermatologist told me that cuts take a full year to heal. The surface is healed but underneath the layers of skin are still healing. The scar may look much better in a year.
