I am 32 weeks and I haven't been able to go to sleep lately until three or four in the morning and I don't wake up until twelve or one in the afternoon and my mom said that when my baby gets here he will have the same sleeping pattern such as sleeping all day and staying up all night and I would like to know if that is true ?

What can I do next?

don't worry yet the baby will take his ques from you at first they sleep all the time, If it were me I would try to adjust my sleep time now,But it won't be hard when baby comes.Just do as the doctors suggest rest when he rests. You Mom is right that he will develop a pattern try to shape it early, think about how you will get a child to school who wants to sleep till noon.

Nothing but an old wives tale. I slept most of my pregnancy away around the clock (I still sleep more hours than anyone in my family)... and my daughter barely sleeps at all. She even gave up naps before her 1st b-day. Lots of babies have sleep troubles.
The only thing that gave me a warning of her activity after birth was her kicking patterns. The times of day that she kicked most often are still the times of day she is most 'hyper'.

I am 31 weeks preg with my second child. Although I go to bed around 10:30 pm nightly, I wake up around 2 or 3 am and am up for a couple of hours. It's not the best rest, but you have to sleep when you can. Your mom is slightly right. Newborns often confuse day/night, but you can train them within the first couple of weeks. Your doctor should be able to lead you in what to do. Welcome to motherhood.

Don't worry about it. With my kids, there sleeping schedule had more to do with the time they were born than my sleep schedule while pregnant.

Babies are wide awake and ready to eat for the first 2-3 hours after birth, then they may sleep the better part of the next 18-24 hours without eating. They have to recover from the birthing process just like mom does! My son was born around 6 PM and had a great sleep schedule from day 1, my daughter was born at 5 AM and was a mess for the first couple days, but we were able to fix her schedule withing the first week.

*Keep that in mind when your baby won't eat in the first day of his life! IF you plan to breastfeed, he won't be hungry and may not eat much until day 2 and it is FINE! Don't let the nurses convince you to give him a bottle. Just in case:)

With both of my pregnancys my boys would move at certain times and when they came out it was there schedule. It had nothing to do with when i went to bed or when i was awake. My first son, would move all day and then at 2 in the morning, well when he came out he was up most of the day at least 1 hour every 4 hours and at night he woke up at 2 and went right back to sleep. My second son which is only 2 weeks old, has the same pattern besides he wants to play at 2 in the morning, but i feed him burp him and lay him back down he puts himself back to sleep without crying.

The times you sleep don't indicate when he will sleep. That is because usually when you fall asleep and get still, that is when the baby gets more active. When you're up moving around, it "rocks" him to sleep. When he is born, he will be up every few hours to feed. Newborns sleep around 20 hours a day at first, but not straight through. It is off and on. So no, your mom is not correct in her advice. A lot of babies do have their days and nights mixed up, but not because of when the mother slept during her pregnancy. It is because it is always "night" in utero, so when the babies are born they do sleep a lot during the day and are up more at night. But it has nothing to do with your sleeping pattern during pregnancy.

I didn't have quite the same problem. I just woke up every night about 1100-1130 no matter what time I went to bed, the I was up again somewhere between 2 and 3...up for work at 5 as usual...When I brought my baby home from the hospital he wanted to nurse at exactly those times that I began waking up during my third trimester. Conincident? Who knows, but I think my body was getting me ready for what was to come!

Newborn babies often get their days and nights mixed up, no matter when you sleep when you are pregnant. It is just something that you have to work with when he comes. You may have to try to wake up earlier in order to get your body back on a normal sleep schedule. Enjoy that new baby when he comes!

I've never heard that before. I would sleep all you want/need right now. You will lose lots of sleep once he is born. I was able to sleep a lot before my 1st was born. She is like me and likes to stay up late and sleep in. But as a baby she didn't have a hard time getting used to day/night sleep.
Good Luck!!

Their sleeping pattern has NOTHING to do with yours. Some babies mix up day/night, but many don't. The important thing is to make sure you keep the house light during the day and dark at night. That helps the baby to regulate its hormones and learn when to sleep. Enjoy!!!
