Sad for My P-K DS

This is a repost from earlier because I didn't get any answers...

I am having some major issues with my DS in his preschool. I have clashed repeatedly with his teacher over behavioral issues that he is having. She claims to be trying hard to keep him in line but that he refuses and that he hits her and bites her etc. These are not issues that we see him having at home nor does his Speech therapist ever see. In fact, his speech therapist is with him 2 X a week at the actual school and as of late she has said he is making great improvement in his socialbility. But the teacher has become so negative about him that I think I have had it up to my eye balls.

Today, I noticed that she had taken his reward chart with three items to work on and increased it to 6 items. Then, she proceeded over the past week to post sad faces next to everything that she felt he was doing wrong. Obviously, this was no longer a reward chart. She turned it into a report card. My son saw it on Friday and instantly said in a sad voice "I only have sad faces..."

So I am looking at other preschool programs in the Plano/Allen area that might be willing to support an expressive language delayed child. I have heard that Children's Workshop may be a good option. Has anyone had any experience with this particular preschool? I know that Apple Creek is really good, but they are filled to capacity. Please help Mommies because I spend quite a bit of time lately anxious over my son's well being and happiness at school.

What can I do next?

I am not sure how old he is but I would take him in a heartbeat!!! I work at Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church; feel free to look up on the church website, go to ministries, and then to Kid Care......you should find info there. Follow your gut and if you feel this is a negative environment for him I would move him. Maybe the director will move him to another class???? Just a suggestion.

You might also try posting a shorter version of this question over at the Dallas Moms Blog. I don't know anything about the Plano/Allen area preschools. We have our son at Graham Cracker Express in Richardson and it is beyond excellent and highly recommended. But I know we have a lot of Allen/Plano moms who read the Dallas Moms Blog and may be able to help you!

Children's Workshop is academically a very good preschool and kindergarten. They are very multi-sensory and have a small teacher child ratio. Since they are a small school, I don't know if they would be equipped to handle your son's needs.

You might call Plano Information and Referrral. Collin County has a great program that used to be called SCCIP for children 0-3 with various special needs and delays. They used to have a preschool too! (They may still have one. I am a retired Plano ISD teacher and personally know parents who have used this program in the past and had great things to say about it.)

I know the program has changed over the years. Personally, I would pursue this program first.

Good luck to you and your son,
K.

Have you looked into the PPCD program in Allenisd? They can evaluate him and see if he qualifies with a speech delay and if he does he can start immediately. My son has a speech delay and was in ECI for services prior to turning 3. Then when he turned 3yrs old he started PPCD and we have had an amazing experience there, my son LOVES it!!! Also, he's been going to Suncreek Kids Christian preschool in conjunction to PPCD and we are SO happy there. Suncreek is off of McDermott between Alma and Custer. The office staff has known about my son's speech issues since he was 2yrs old and they have been so accomodating in placing him in the right classes with the right teachers (i've been super happy with every one of his teachers). As of now my son will be 4 next month and he's officially caught up in speech. Between speech therapy, PPCD, and Suncreek Preschool my son's in a happy place. PPCD is free since it's offered through the school district, you just have to qualify, however if he's speech therapy then he would probably qualify. Good luck, I know frustrating it can be!!!

We are VERY happy with Rainbow Days Preschool in East Allen (located in St. Jude Catholic Church). We're not Catholic, but the teachers there treat everyone equally and shower the children with love. Even if a child is misbehaving and has to go to the office, it simply means that they need extra hugs from someone besides the teacher. Honestly, we couldn't be happier.
