Running with My New Boobs :-)

Hi Moms,

For those of you who run and nurse...how the heck do I run without injuring myself and being the center of attention at the gym :-) I took up running between my first child and the one we just had so this is all new to me. I put on my tightest sprots bra yesterday and headed back for my first run since the baby was born. Good grief! My boobs hurt and despite the fact that my bra was tight they still bounced around...I felt like a teenager I was so embarassed! What to do?

What can I do next?

Hi N.,

I had exactly the same problem - I was only a 34B before my baby, and now I'm 36C - so not too huge for anyone else, but for me they killed after running!!

I went to Fleet Feet and they fitted me and recommended the Moving Comfort "Fiona" bra - it's wonderful!! I've also been recommended the Enell bra but it's a little expensive for me.

I've also heard that there is a new one from Nike that is supposed to be excellent too :)

Good luck!!

Hi. There is a wonderful shop called Tina's Closet in downtown Lisle. She does not have cheap bras, but she is EXCELLENT at fitting you and finding the right bra...even for those of us that are really big nursing breasts. If you go, please give my name as a referral...you get $5 for referrals. I hope that you get some help.

New boobs can hurt even when your not running, walking can be a challenge! Try an ACE elastic bandage to hold those bad girls in place. I did it and it worked fine for me :)

Good Luck

I swear I would not have been able to exercise with out the enell sports bra. you can find them on line or at Lucy (stores in northbrook, naperville and lincoln park). Good luck and congrats on the new baby.

I always wore my bigger sports bras, meaning the ones that had a lot of fabric and front coverage and were tighter, as opposed to the lower cut ones. Also, the ones that are a cotton/spandex blend are tighter, and therefore better with the nursing, than the ones that are primarily spandex. I think the best ones I found were Champion at Target.

I did find that my boobs hurt when I put on the sports bra, b/c it was so tight, but they then didn't hurt when I was running so I was ok with that.

I recently found the BEST sports bra ever (not sure how it will work for you since you are still nursing as it is really tight, Oprahs favorite sports bra). Its called the Enell Sports Bra. I looked and looked and took a chance on this and I love it. I am large busted and like to run and felt like I was putting on a show at the healthclub( I am certain I was). This is a little pricey and kindda hard to measure for. There is a place around here that measures you and sells them. I think if you check out their website they will tell you where you can get them. I will never use another sports bra.

Wear two sports bras? That way there is more support and coverage...

You've got to double up the sports bra and see if that helps. Or switch to an elliptical machine that is low impact and you can change resistance settings to get a good workout!

I 'ran' into this same issue last summer after my twins were born. I actually only could wear the tightest sports bras I had. If I had one that was loose at all, it felt like it was doing nothing. So I'd recommend trying one so small that you can barely get it on....and then I was able to run fine... Good luck!

Congratulations on the new baby. You'll need to wear your regular bra and maybe 1 or 2 sports bras. The idea is to pack them in so tight that they don't get a chance to move much. I also made it a point to hold my breasts down while I was jumping around or running. It's uncomfortable at first, but it definitely beats putting an eye out (your own) or getting unwanted attention.

Hope everything works out for you!

P.S. I always wear a regular bra with my sports bra! Did I forget to mention that I also wore a fitted sport top as well, no loose t-shirts...I needed as much help as I could get.

I have to laugh because I was the same way. It hurt like hell. I hope you find a trick, because I never did. I ended up just walking fast and doing other machines. Good luck

I had the same problem. I wore two sports bras and that did the trick.

I had this problem too! I can HIGHLY recommend the sports bra selection at Title Nine Sports (www.titleninesports.com). Plus, if you call their customer service they'll give you more advice. They have all their bras tested by women of multiple sizes and when they say you won't bounce they're really serious. Tightest isn't always the best solution, I've learned. It's about what fits and supports you right.

Hi N.,

I've not used it myself but I've heard of a bra called the 'smasher' I kid you not....It's sold through a company called Title Nine...I'd search for it online...I've had breast feeding friends that loved it....Good luck...
