Frequently we have new posters that don't even use one comma or period. Any clue why that is? Are they just bots?

It makes my head hurt.

What can I do next?

I think sometimes people just don't know how to write and they type what they think it's supposed to be spelled like.

I don't necessarily treat them like trolls because my sister can't spell some simple words without calling me to tell her how it's spelled. I do try to answer them or what I think they are saying...

well, spelling and punctuation are quaint archaic notions these days, aren't they? that, combined with the prevalence of phone typing, makes for a perfect storm.
so many of y'all young 'uns do so much from your phones i'm actually surprised it's not worse. i do 95% of my MP-ing from my roomy keyboard at my desktop. the thumb thing just doesn't work for me.

LOL correct sentence structure has always been important to me. I like organization and ease of understanding what is written. That being said I've noticed when my focus is more on what is being said because the issue is important to me I mostly just type. I'm even more this way when my emotions are involved. Often I go back and punctuate but I don't always have time to do so.

I've also noticed with my daughter and granddaughter that sentence structure is not taught as it was in my youth. Education has become more about social ideas and less about facts. We have situational ethics. I suggest good grammer, spelling and sentence structure have become less important.

Some people just don't have an education in the basics of grammar. Others just care about getting their thoughts out. I've noticed the flip side as well-posters who throw in commas EVERYWHERE or use really short sentences, which is just as bad! Bad grammar make my head hurt, too, but I try to ignore it and focus on the meat of the post.

Even if typed on a phone, my phone has the ability to use punctuation. Heck, even my talk to text feature will do better than some of the posters here. I admit that if I cannot tease out the gist of the question/story fairly quickly, I don't answer it. Yes, this is the internet. No, it's not formal. No, I don't think they are bots. Sadly.

Ive usually wondered if they were typing so fast that they just DIDNT HAVE TIME to focus on stupid picky things like punctuation and sentence structure and spelling and life is just too short and u have no WRITE to tear me down for it and

It makes my head hurt, too.

I do try to be charitable about it. The poor poster may have sick or crying children, and/or may have just finished talking with that uncaring spouse or that ubiquitous nasty MIL. She's upset, she's probably exhausted, and she's possibly pouring her heart out in the ninety seconds she has - on a very small cellphone keyboard.

I'm pretty good at writing, but I always, always have to go back and double- or triple-check to see if anybody will be able to understand what I write. My brain knows what I want to say, how to say it, how to spell it, and even how to punctuate it, but my fingers sure do mess up. It takes time to go back and do that sort of checking.

It makes me think they are bots or spammers (or on dope).
Free flowing rambling thought streams are too much to deal with.
If they can't focus enough to produce a coherent sentence, there's nothing I can tell them that will get through to their tripping brain cells.

I think its more common in younger people or uneducated people of any age. They are so used to texting that they don't understand that the lack of punctuation makes them seem ignorant. It could be a lack of education but Im pretty sure that they teach basic punctuation and letter writing by 6th grade. That said, in some areas the teachers are horrible so you can't really blame people. Its so hard to say. I usually don't even bother to read those posts.
