May 11 day old was positive for rsv, she had great vitals ( went to hospital for overnight observation) . i am reading about all these breathing treatments, we had none. anyone else test positive but have no treatments?

even at the follow up at doc her lungs were still clear and all vitals good. she has a lil wheezing, snoring sound...like she needs to clear her throat, but that is it. ( sounds snotty, but i dont get anything when i suction)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

the reason i had taken her in was bc she was very congested and sounded horrible, she is soooo much better now, and her "wheezing" is more like she needs to clear her throat, just a new noise, i cant really describe. my hubby thinks i am just being paranoid since the diagnosis. reading about people and breathing treatments is what concerned me, i know i am being over protective. I do trust my dr, and agree you can scare yourself to death by googling everything.. she is still eating alot and peeing/pooping like normal. when we were in the hospital they said the 3rd and 4th day was the worst and thats when we were there. since then my mom has otten a bad cold and my dad got pneumonia- my doc said she could give anyone around her at that time a cold :( but that she already " had it" and couldnt catch it back. we havnt had any visitors since then to be safe

My grandson didn't need any treatments. Another little girl in our daycare needed her lungs suctioned out. They both sounded the same to me. I always tell my asthma moms that they need to tell me when to give treatments because I simply can not hear the sounds the doctors and nurses are looking for. When I think it's bad, it's not. When I think it's not, it might be :) This is one of those times we have to trust them.

Not all children with RSV need breathing treatments. She was in the hospital and they monitored her vital signs. The vital signs were great. There is nothing to treat. Like all virus the symptoms get worse and then slowly get better. You were in the hospital when she should have been at the worst. She will continue to have mucus which it sounds like she can easily clear. Her eating a lot is also really reasurring. If you can't breathe well, you can't eat well. If you don't eat enough, you don't pee and poop enough. Your doing great! Keep watching her. She is likely protected from RSV for this season. Immunity for RSV doesn't usually stay from one season to another. So she could get it again next year. Try to stay off of google. You only scare yourself.

Many babies have a wheezing, snoring sound when they breathe and is not an indication of breathing difficulties. I'd trust your doctor. Call the doctor if she has difficulty breathing or isn't nursing. Otherwise, she's fine.

She didn't receive breathing treatments because her lungs were clear and she wasn't having difficulty breathing.

Sometimes we can scare ourselves with what we read. Keep in mind what is written is based on worse case scenarios and doesn't usually apply to the average baby/child/adult. Your baby has been observed in a hospital. Your doctor is giving you information based on your child. If you don't trust your doctor, you need to find another one or you'll be constantly worried. I do think, based on what you wrote, that your doctor did what was best and you can relax.

RSV can turn bad in just hours, keep a very close eye on her and make sure she is not wheezing or getting congested. Most newborns with RSV are hospitalized by good docs and they are monitored very closely. My friend who lost her grand baby to RSV told me the baby had been to the pediatrician the afternoon before he died. He went bad that quickly. Maybe you got lucky and your baby had it very mildly.

Hi,
I had to respond because my 13 month old has now had RSV twice!! Once when he was only two months, and once a month ago. Both times he had a little wheezing, and obviously some coughing, but he got over it on his own with no treatments or hospitalization within a week. This last time he did develop an ear infection with a high fever a week later, so we had visits to the urgent care and doctor but averted any antibiotics etc. and he got better on his own. My doc is so great... when he was diagnosed with RSV at two or three months, they said, go home, don't google it.... he looks fine and will probably get over it no prob. However, if your lo is having a hard time breathing or not nursing, then you should seek treatment. But just know, they do not always need to have any extra interventions if they can breathe. For me, I always slept with my baby so I had no question whether or not they were ok in the other room. Good luck mama.

She was not given albuterol because there was no reason to give it. Her vitals were good and her lungs clear.
