Hi all,
I just gave birth to my secon child back on October 30th. He is due for his 2 month immunizations in 2 weeks. My Dr discussed the rota-virus vaccination(Rota-Tec) for him since it is highly contagious and one of the most common sicknesses resulting in dehydration and hospitalization for infants, not to mention that I have an almost 3 year old that can bring all sorts of nasty viruses home very easily. I am wondering if any of you have children that were given the immunization for rota-virus and if so were there any adverse reactions to the vaccination? All the research I have done says that I should get the vaccine, but I am still on the fence about it. Any information would be great! Thank you!

What can I do next?

I personally would not get this vaccine. When ds (now 2) was 2 months old the ped's office was not giving it due to a bad batch or something. (and if you don't start the 3-part series at 2 months, it is not given at all) We never had any problems.

Since you stay home with both of your children, they are much less likely to contract this disease anyway. And if you are breastfeeding, the chances of him getting it are even less.

Good luck with you decision!

My two youngest had it and we had no issues from it. The best thing about it is its not a shot, they just drink some liquid. They have not gotten any stomach bugs as of yet, but none of my kids go to school yet.

I'm not a big fan of any "new" medicine, but last year when my son was 2 months old we got the rota-virus vax, and I'm glad we did. He had no adverse reactions (well, a little cranky, but he got several vax's at once, and that's to be expected). Rota virus is very serious in little babies, I think it's definitel a great vaccination.

I strongly urge you to get it! My niece ended up in the hospital when she was 5 months old and she got Rota Virus. My son got his vaccine and didn't have any reaction to it at all.
