Roseola More than Once?

My daughter caught roseola back in Feb. and as far as I knew it was like the chicken pox and its likely that you will only get it once in your life but fast forward to now and Im thinking thats wrong. She caught a minor cold last Monday and it was really only a runny nose. Then last night she was in the bath and all of a sudden turned blue from head to toe and would not stop shivering. We pulled her from the bath instantly, wrapped her up and I bear hugged her and then got her dressed and gave her medicine a bunch of water and she went straight to bed. She was complaining of a pain in her mouth last night but no cough and she never complains of pain. She had a low grade fever pretty much all night and we kept switching from tylenol and advil throughout the night as needed. I took her to the drs. today for a strep test and we are waiting on the results but since we have been home she spiked a high fever - 39.6/103 (turned blue again) with the shivers and became very quiet and tired. So we gave her medicine and she is quietly watching a movie. The dr mentioned that it could be roseola again but like I said I thought that wasnt possible. Does anyone know if it is and if its happened to theit kids because this is crazy. I just want to make my poor baby feel better. I also have an 8 month old that I fear will catch this too
Thanks in advance

What did the doc say about her turning blue?

My daughter was diagnosed at the doc with roesola, but it turned out to be hand foot n mouth.. a few days after we took her to the doc, the bllisters on her hands and feet were evident. and that is what was going around her daycare at the time.

Not sure if they can get roseola twice or not, but hand foot and mouth would explain the pain in her mouth.

Good luck.

My son has had it 2x.
So yes, it's possible.
The telltale sign is always the rash at the end. :(

Both Roseola and hand foot mouth disease can be caused by multiple viruses, so yes, you absolutely CAN get them more than once. Have you checked her mouth (particularly her inner lip, like where canker sores show up) for sores? A sore mouth (rather than a sore *throat*) sounds like HFM, not strep.

Chills can often accompany a high fever, but if it is more than her lips that are turning blue, I would be worried about an oxygenation problem. Make sure you specifically tell your doctor about this.

(Also, if you have had chicken pox, you can develop shingles later, as a result of having had the chicken pox virus. Depending on the presentation, shingles can look an awful lot like a reoccurrence of chicken pox.)

You shouldn’t get it twice but sometimes it can happen. I would ask the doctor for a blood test (titers test) because a fever that high with a similar rash sounds like measles (roseola has a lower fever). Did she have white spots in her mouth with the pain? That is another symptom of measles, but only a blood test could tell you what she has.

I think you can get it again. My kids have gone through hand foot and mouth a few times each and I was told that they wouldn't get it more than once. I would be freaking out about the blue thing though that doesnt sound normal for roseola or hf&m.

I'm confident my DD has had roseola more than once. BUT, she never ever turned blue. That's all together not right. Good luck.

Turning blue sounds extremely scary to me. That to me says breathing problem. Did the doctor actually see her today or did you just talk on the phone? If not, I think would be sitting in the urgent care center or ER right now. Most definately if it happens again. Hugs and I hope she gets well very soon!
