Hi Moms,
My poor 10 month old girl is suffering from Roseola - I think! More then a week ago she had a bit of a head cold with a stuffy nose. I thought it was starting to clear up but she got a cough. Then suddenly she had a fever for about 3 days. The fever seems to have gone now but she still has a stuffy nose, coughing occasionally, and now tonight I noticed she has a light rash on her back and chest. I will call the doctor in the morning and get confirmation. If that is it I am a bit relieved to at least know what it is. However, I am still worrying because since she has been sick she has occasionally been sweating (cold sweat) when I put her down to sleep. I have been giving her Motrin before bed to help with her discomfort as she is not only fussy at night due to her symptoms but also teething pretty bad. I am going to stop the Motrin tomorrow night because I read that can cause sweating but I am wondering if this virus is causing the sweating too? Any ideas?

UPDATE - We saw the doctor last Saturday and he said it is probably just a virus. Her ears, lungs and throat looked good. Talked (via phone) to the doctor again this morning to ask about rash and sweating and he said not to worry as the roseala, which he said it most likely is, will give cold like symptoms and the virus will cause the sweating and fluctuations. She isn't on antibiotics so no worries about allergic reactions. I am less worried now...

What can I do next?

The Rash is a way of her body ridding itself of the germs that attacked her body, the body lets go of things somewhere & hers just seems to be through the pores...as far as her cough & nose, for the next 3 nights (without fail) put Vicks vapor rub on her feet & socks to cover. This will clear up her congestion & she will be able to sleep a lot better & should take care of the rest of the germs lingering. Lots of loving doesn't hurt either! = 0 )

I know IT WORKS I have used it all throughout my 3 daughter's lives who are now 22, 21 & 16 yrs old now!

Please take her to her doctor for a strep test . . . that rash could be a result of strep. Does she have a fever?? My son used to get it all of the time . . . and even if it doesn't show in the throat, the rash is an indication that she may have the strep bacteria.

My daughter had roseola (diagnosed by her Pediatrician). She had a VERY high fever for about three days followed by a rash all over her body. She didn't have a stuffy nose, no cough and she didn't sweat at all.
If you can, I would definitely go see a Pediatrician.
Hope she gets well soon, poor little thing.

Hi M., First off, I have a question for you. Is your daughter taking any antibiotics for her cold? The reason I ask this is, a year ago my daughter had a severe cold with cough and was put on antibiotics. She also started getting a rash on her back and stomach. The rash spread from there to her arms, legs, feet, face, and when it reached her mouth we took her to the emergency room, and found out she was allergic to antibiotics. We had gotten her to the er just in the nick of time. They said one more hour and she would have probably died. So, please call your doctor right away and let me know if she is ok. I will hope for the best for you both.

My daughter had roseola at about the same age. She had a fever for a day and acted sick that day. The rash showed up the next day and lasted for about a week. Though, while she had the rash, she acted like she was fine running around and playing. So the roseola isn't causing the other symptoms.

Poor little thing! Take care and get her to the dr. :)
