Hi Moms;
My 6 1/2 month old loves her bouncy chair but has outgrown it (by that I mean she gets in it and rocks it so hard the back is lifting off the ground). She loves it so much but I don't want her to get injured continuing to use it. I was looking at the plush rockers at Target online. Especially the butterfly or Ladybug because they seem to have backs to them, but they all say 9 mo. + I wouldn't get around to getting it for her until she's 7 mo. But I was wondering if any mom's had any good ideas or any cautions as to why I shouldn't get one for her or why I should. She can sit up without assistance and is days from crawling (she can rock on all 4's and move her legs and hands essentially she can crawl a step and then flops forward). Any words of wisdom.

She sure sounds like a strong little one. Be careful of the larger seats that her spine doesn't curve or that she doesn't slump. Bouncing in a slumped position and bouncing could harm the tender spinal area. Maybe you can roll a few towels and pack her tight in the seat. It's great to hear of a baby that is strong from the bouncy seat. I keep telling moms to exercise these babies. It's not only great for baby but it tires them out leaving private time for moms that need it (as most do). Good job mommy.

I haven't seen the ones at Target, but Fisher Price makes a nice rocking seat that I used when my daughter outgrew her bouncy seat.

Have you seen the bouncy chairs that eventually convert to a toddler rocker? I have not used one, but I had a friend who loved it and her 4 y/o still sits in his.

Hi P.,

I don't see any reason why she can't use it at 7 months. Those age guidelines are mostly just a general reccommendation (except for the choking hazard warnings for under 3). Use your own mommy judgement in this case. If she seems to have a hard time with it at 7 months, put it away for awhile.

Check out the infant to toddler rocker from Fisher Price. It might be just what you're looking for. Looks and feels like a bouncy chair but converts to a rocker for bigger kids. My son used one while we visited friends and he liked it. It also got rave reviews on the Babies R Us site. Good luck!
