Road Trip Snacks for 5 Year Old

We're heading on a road trip a few states away, and I was wondering what are some good snacks for a 5 year old (and adults too!) for in-car snacking? Last year I did oatmeal creampies, granola bars, Capri Suns, and peanut-butter cheese crackers. Looking for some new ideas :) Thanks in advance! Oh, and nothing that will stain or make someone look down for a long time, my 5 year old gets motion sickness :/ We have to keep her on Dramamine in the car.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions! I'm going to have to go buy me some of those blue ice packs.

Fresh fruit like orange and apple slices and bananas are good, just have the Wet Ones handy. I also make a cereal snack, with 3 or 4 different types of cereal (I like Quaker Oat Squares, Multi-Grain Cheerios, and Life Cereal) and add butterscotch chips and raisins, it's kind of like a cereal granola. Goldfish crackers, Sun Chips, Fiber One bars, and 100% juices in boxes or Capri Suns Roarin' Waters are good as well.

Precut apple slices (shake them in a little Fruit Fresh to keep from browning or package with presliced oranges)
Dried fruit or freeze-dried fruit
GORP (mixture of Cherrios, M&Ms, raisins, nuts, pretzels, etc)
Cucumber coins
Strawberries, blueberries, grapes
Freeze 100% Juice Capri Sun pouches to help keep your cold stuff cold
String cheese
Dry cereal (Honey Nut Cheerios, Life, Frosted Mini Wheats, etc)
Mini wheat bagels--top with some nut butter
Sliced deli meat
Yogurt tubes--freeze ahead of time (less mess)
Fruit strips (Archer Farms-Target-makes some tasty ones)
Granola bars
I love yogurt-covered raisins but a warning--if one falls in the car, they melt like chocolate

Whatever food you bring, also grab a pack of baby wipes.

You already have some great suggestions as far as snacks. We have done road trips with kids for many, many years. One tip I'll share, is to bring a cooler with those re-freezable blocks. You don't have to worry about the ice melting and leaking all over and you can re-freeze them when you get to your destination for the trip back home. You can also freeze water bottles, so that when they melt, you have water to drink.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm a big fan of the PBJ in the car! If you're going to do a cooler then yes, I'd do cheese sticks or the Baby Bell wrapped cheeses, those are good, grapes, blueberries, bananas, etc. You could also do apple slices with out without a cup of peanut butter to dip them into. Ziplock makes a nice small sized cup perfect for peanut butter, cottage cheese, or ranch dressing for dips!

Here are some other faves from my kids:
dry cereal
fruit snacks
Cheez-Its (they have a Scrabble variety with letters which is delicious and educational!;)
Annie's Organic Bunny Mix
freeze dried fruits (Target or Whole Foods, even Costco has them)
Oreos
Goldfish
Pretzel sticks

I have some stainless steel water bottles that both my kids fill up with water before a trip and they usually just drink water until we stop to eat.

Keep an ice-cooler in your car. Put Blue-Ice in it to keep it chilled.
Then you can pack anything.
And don't have to buy it on the road.

String cheese.
Fruit already washed.
Yogurt cups
Water
Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches
Boiled eggs.

We make something called "Bird Mix" - Cheerios, Pretzel Sticks, Cranraisins, & Mini-Marshmallows. However, you can substitute any of these things for something else you'd prefer instead. Just something fun and different.

I made home made trail mix. Fill a freezer bag with peanuts, m&ms and yogurt covered raisins. If there are no food allergies, that would be good and you don't need to keep it in a cooler.

You could also do a chex mix, mini-pretzel, goldfish cracker mix as well in a freezer bag. A lot cheaper than buying premade chex mix.
