For the last few days my daughter has had this perfectly round red blemish on her cheek. It's red and dry and I just discovered one on her bottom. I thought it might be ringworm even though I've only seen that once in my life. She has no fever or anything
Thanks for all your responses. I have a dear friend who is a nurse practioner and she says the fungus is not in the same family as the jock itch, yeast infection, etc. so the creams won't work, and they haven't, as I've tried them. She said to put plain iodine on it and to make sure all the red is covered, not just the center of it.

J.- Not that I know much about the subject, but my sister has 2 kids and her son also came up with a round, dry ring on the back of his arm. He didn't tell my sister about it for several days. She noticed him scratching one day and by the time she found it he had 4!! He took a lot of medicine to get rid of them and they had to totally sanitize all of his bed linens, clothes, etc. Her daughter also ended up with one. The pediatrician said handwashing is a must in prevention and spreading it to other areas of the body or to other members of the family. Get it looked at as soon as possible for fast treatment!

Ringworm, is caused by the same fungus that cause athletes feet and one of the best creams you can find for that problem will also take care of the ringworm if that is the problem.
I would suggest a visit to her peditrician however for some skin disorders can look like ringworm..Such as phorisis or others...You could try the cream for a few days to see what happen if it is ringworm the cream will take care of it....Good luck J.

If you have that assumption I would consult a Dr. Recently I rescued a puppy that had ringworm and she said it could cause blindness in children if untreated. But usually ringworm is usually treated with antifungal meds. Any type of athletes foot cream or a monostat type product should do the trick if it is ring worm. Fyi ringworm is highly contagious, make sure you wash you hands and cover it so she does not touch it and spread it to other parts of her body, you or other children.
Again, I would see a Dr to rule out any other problems.

It does sound like it might be ringworm. I had the same thing for the first time ever a couple months ago. It went away very fast with some anti-fungal cream. Put it on about 3 times a day for a week or so and it should be gone :)

It sounds like ringworm. If she has been in a sand box or to a park she more than likely contracted it there. If you have vagsil, it works perfect. I would try that first and if it doesn't clear up then take her to the doctor. It's very contagious so the challenge is to keep her from touching either spot. If she does she will transfer it from place to place on her body. Hence, the spot on her bottom.

Look up ringworm on the internet and try to find a site with pictures. WebMd.com has been helpful to me in the past, but there are others. I've learned a lot about symptoms and treatments that my doctor's office was too busy to help me with or just didn't give enough information about, even as a paying patient.

It would not uncommon for your daughter to have ringworm in the places you mentioned. Hands travel everywhere when they are attached to cute three year olds. An easy way to check is apply a common athlete' foot cream to one or both of the sites. If the skin area that seems to be infected improves then you have ringworm and continue treatment(you can find this information on the athlete's foot cream), if no improvement, a doctor's visit may be in order.

Of course, if you're worried about ringworm, you should take her to the doctor for a medicated cream. However, my 22 month old gets these occasionally and they are just a patch of eczema. They do not go away on their own, so I slather them with cream several times a day and they are gone in a couple of days. The three things I've found that work are: Arbonne Baby Care lotion, Aquaphor, and Crisco (yep, that's right, adn she smells like a biscuit). If you try that and it doesn't go away, then maybe it IS ringworm...

That is what it sounds like to me, my son had one about a year ago and it kept coming back in different places. I finally had to take him to a dr. to get a precription to treat it, sorry I don't remember what they gave him. They also told me to put anti fungal cream on it.

Definitely sounds like ringworm. It is very contagious, and if it occurs on skin that has hair, like the scalp, can cause permanent hair loss. But fortunately it's easily cured with topical creams. Just ask your local pharmacist.

Ringworm is very common and normally very easy to diagnose. A visit to the dr should be able to confirm it. But, the main reason I am responding is, my daughter just went wrongly diaganosed with ecxsema(For a year!), which finally with a visit to a dermatologist was confirmed ringworm. Ringworm was ruled out at her first appointment. The spot never got better, we were at the dr at least every 6 weeks, more than one dr in the practice missed it. The steriod cream for the exscema was feeding this infection, so we basically made the ringworm stronger and harder to get rid of. It is just now going away. Even if they think its not, have them do a simple skin test. It's painless and took the dermatologist a total of 30 seconds to identify it under a microscope.

My oldest son had the same perfect red circle on his chin (He's 7). Go get some Lamisil AT and put just a dab on it 2x a day. Oh- and if she goes to school, keep it covered with a bandaid. The school might not let her be at school if they know she has uncovered ringworm- it is contagious. Hope this helps.

If it is ringworm it should turn into a darker red ring and the center of the spot will fade lighter. It's not unusual to have it in more than one location. It can be spread from household pets, but also is a naturally occuring fungus in soil.

Ringworms are so easy to get rid of. Use the same cream that is use of athlete's foot. There are several brands on the market and even store brands. Goes away fairly quickly. Some say that they are commom if you have a cat. My daughter had one, no cat, but pets horses on a daily bases.

Ringworn starts out looking like a blemish, but proceeds to continues to expand in a circular motion where the center becomes white and the outside remains reddish. There are some over the counter products that will take care of it. OR call your local pharmacy.

If it is ringworm, then use an antifungal creme like something for athelete's feet. My husband actually got it for the first time in his life and it spread all of his chest and back. I didn't know it spread if it is the skin kind. The doctor prescribed the med I listed above.

You can get some OTC clotrimazole cream and apply it 3-4 times a day to the affected areas. Be sure to apply it at least 3 times a day. You will notice a difference within a couple of days. The ringworm may even go away within a couple of days but be sure to use it for 7 days to ensure that the ringworm is completely gone. The clotrimazole is just an antifungal, ringworm is a fungal infection. If she has them appearing in several spots on her body, more than likely that is what she has. They may also get a little dry looking around the edge and grow larger. She may even want to scratch them because sometimes they itch. Be sure to treat it becuase if she gets them in her hair she can loose the hair in that site. If you aren't sure whether or not it is ringworm, go to any pharmacy, Walgreens is usually the best, and ask them to look at it. They will probably tell you the same thing I have.

It sounds exactly like ringworm. Take her to the pediatrician. My husband had the same thing on his arm. (He came to my 1st grade classroom, and the next week developed this) Our nurse friend told us that's what it is....a perfectly round red ring.
Let us know...

If its ringworm you should be able to see some type of circular shape on the red area. My daughter had a red spot on her cheek last year and ended up being Impetigo. Have it checked out whenever you can.

It is possible that it is ringworm. I would get some Lamisol or other Athlete's Foot medication (cream form is best) and apply as directed. Ringworm is basically the same thing as athlete's foot, just on another part of the body, and Lamisol or another medication like it can heal it. May take several days or even a few weeks, but it will go away.
