Ring Resizing... Advice and Recommendations?

Hi helpful mamas :) I find I am in need of getting my wedding ring resized maybe a half-size to a size larger. The band is yellow gold and the setting is white gold with a row of five tiny diamonds (I love my ring!) Over the 16-plus year I've had my ring I've had weight changes and my finger has a deep permanent dent where the ring was. Occasionally I would check if I could get it off over my big nuckle and I could. Today I almost couldn't even after greasing my knuckle really good (my knuckles are getting bigger, probably mild arthritis) so it's time to resize. I want it done right. We bought the ring at JCPenney almost 17 years ago and I don't know if we could find proof we got it there so I don't think they could do the resizing. Is there any place near the West Allis area that you recommend for ring resizing? How much should I expect to pay for having the job done right? Also is there anything I need to be careful of? Many thanks for your suggestions and advice. *Peace*! :)

So What Happened?

Many thanks for all your helpful replies! I went to Shallow Jewelers. They told me my prongs were very worn so they rebuilt my prongs so I wouldn't lose my diamonds, and the resized my ring. It was very expensive, but when I saw my ring I felt it was worth the price because it was like getting a new ring. I've been wearing the ring every day since then and am very pleased with the expert work from Shallow Jewelers. *peace*!

I used to work for Rogers & Hollands in Brookfield Square, I would take it there. They have a Jeweler that comes into the store to do the work so the turn around will be quicker than most places, likely less than a week. The pricing will depend on the thickness of the ring, if you have two rings soldered together, and detail of the setting. If it is only one ring and only going up half a size, I would think it would be around $50, but I have been out of the business for three years, so don't quote me! Just make sure the associate taking your ring in writes up a detailed description and uses a diamond tester to verify your stones. Overall it is a very safe process and you shouldn't have any problems especially with such a reputable jeweler!

OH my gosh! You NEED to go to Shallow Jewelers. They are on Greenfield, just west of 84th. He's been in business many many years and they do everything right there in house. He also designs jewelery. I had him fix a Tanzinite (VERY soft stone most jewelrs shy away from) ring and he did beautifully. Also a prog broke off of my marquee wedding ring and he fixed it...no charge. I did not buy either piece from his store. It's not too expensive...I think 35.00 or so...but I'm sure it'll depend on how much of a sizing you need. Google Shallow Jewlers in West Allis to see their website. (apologize for the spelling errors)

I had a "reputable" jeweler switch 2 of my diamonds in an anniversary ring that I have. One of the smaller diamonds fell out and I was having it replaced. The jeweler I now use photographs and weighs their customers rings. Just be careful!

half to one size larger should be easy. I had mine done back when I was married, perhaps 5 years ago. Took 3 days and cost around $35.

Go to a jeweler in your town that has the biggest building. :) They have the most to lose if they do you wrong. They will size your finger so you'll have the right size. Make sure you remember that your fingers swell in the summer and shrink in the winter so have that in mind. Not too tight or loose. A jeweler in our town did mine and didn't charge me anything. He did it for goodwill and that I would tell others about it. Don't worry, it'll be fine and you'll wonder why you didn't do it years ago! :) I think "normal" cost would be about $50.
