All kids have had runny noses and sometimes you just have to let them run its course.I am not a fan of over the counter medication all the time so I use baths,Vicks vapor rub and warm soup and I heat up her juice. Yesterday I tried Childrens Mucinex and it really didnt work that well which promted me to think about when I was little my Mom gave me cherry jello to drink. Then I thought maybe someone out there might have some home remedies for runny noses that you could share with us that I could try and hopefully work. Thanks for your time!

What can I do next?

already said by someone else... but it works!
nettie pot all the way. It may seem strange at first but it's amazing the results you get. here's one site, not that I'm recommending the site, just something so you can see what it is.

I would stick to the routine you are on, but also, I did hear-and tried it, put vapor rub on their feet. Sounds wild huh -yes indeed, but if you think about it, the oriental are big on bodily healing and your sinuses are at the around tip of your toes- so any aliments are focused with in the feet area. I sent this to my girlfriend to use on her children and she's been happier since.
Like your self I would still stick to the chicken soup, yada yada. And you'll see the turnaround.

BEst of luck.

S.: I recall the days of runny nose and the frustration I used have with the problem. There is nothing like seeing a beautiful baby all crsuted up let alone one that cannot breathe. When my kids were younger I used to keep them greased up with a product called SAVE THE BABY. I believe you can still buy it at a drug store. It bears a resemblance of Vick VapoRub but is much milder for a young child. It always did the trick for me. Good Luck.

Neti pot. Look it up online, it's gross but it flushes out the sinus cavities. You have to get kids to sing or make noise so they don't swallow the saline. It isn't theeasiest thing to do with kids but I did it first to show them. My 3yr old has had multiple sinus infections! So I was desparate and it worked.

Hot baths and/or showers. Let the warm water run over their little heads and all the mucus loosens up and clears right out. Plus - easy to clean up since you are already in the bathtub. This is not a long lasting solution, but can be very useful shortly before bedtime to help them sleep better. Good luck!

hi S.. we were older when my mom did this for us... so im not sure if it will work for a 2 year old. but she would use hot water and fill up the sink or a large old bowl. then we would tilt our heads over the bowl and she would place a towel over our heads to help keep the steam in. i remember it being gross b/c my nose would run into the water. but after wards i felt much more relief and "cleaned" out. i know it sounds a little yucky, but i do remember it working for us, more so when we were conjested, but it might help your little one in the future when shes older. hope shes feeling well soon. also, i noticed with my daughter, it just runs like crazy for about 3 days. then the worste is over. i do the suctioning and the vapor rub and the vaporizer too, but nothing seems to keep it from running for at least 3 days straight. i hope you find something that helps.

The item I have heard about working the best is zinc. They come in lollypops or throat lozenges. Be careful though I have heard that long term usuage can cause loss of smell. As a person who already suffers from that it is no big deal. My kids have had the lollypops and no adverse reactions but I usually only give them one or lollypops per cold. Good Luck-I look forward to everyone else's comments
