Replacing Windows in My House- What to Get and Where to Go???

We have 11 windows on our first floor and 4 basement size windows. Of our first floor windows, only 4 or 5 are 'standard size' the others are 4ft x 4ft and 7ft x 4 ft, etc...

We are getting estimates, but I don't know anything about windows and don't know WHAT KIND TO GET and WHO TO TRUST.

Have you gotten windows replaced lately? What type did you get? How much did you spend? Who did you go with?

What can I do next?

I don't know if they are in your area or not, but Pella Windows are great. I grew up in Iowa and Pella has been around for years and years. And they have a huge following. The previous owners that we bought our house from worked at Pella and installed brand new windows right before they put the house on sale. They are so great! The house stays really warm in the winter and cool in the summer! I would recommend them!

I LOVE the pella windows with the blinds in them- no more dusting blinds ever! But I think they are a bit pricey- other makes may have the blinds as well?

We got 5 new windows through Home Depot back in March. They are expensive and so we can only afford to replace a few at a time. The cost was right around $3,000 and we got the vinyl kind. Three of those were pretty large and open out by a crank which made them a bit more expensive.

We have been really happy with them.

We love our windows from Window World. I think we paid like $380 per window and that was installed and old ones removed and taken away. The ones we chose also qualify for the income tax credit. Since we are on a tight budget we are going floor by floor. We did 9 last last spring and plan on doing 8 this spring then the remaining 11 or 12 in 2012 to help split the cost and to not have to fiance them. I would highly recommend them. Our Nanny also just purchased some from them too and she loves hers!

We used Dale Webster Exteriors in St. Charles. We love the windows and they ran around $400 a piece. The windows were manufactured by Quaker Windows which is also located in Missouri. We also did our windows in two different years. The windows tilt out for cleaning and are very easy to open and close. The difference in heating and cooling our house was amazing!

Okay, Pella windows are awesome, but they are sooo expensive. I'm sure they are worth it, but seriously, to do our living room windows with Pella was as much as doing our entire house with Window World and that is just much more budget friendly. We just placed our order with Window World and are wiaitng to get them installed but so far the experience has been good. Our neighbors have them too and are really happy so far! Check them out but you'll have to order FAST to get them installed by 12/31 for the tax credit!

We have just finished the last of our windows, so I feel your pain! We did the first 7 seven windows by buying them from Home Depot and then having my husband and a friend install them.

Now that my hubby is working a ton, he has no time for extra work around the house, so we had a few people come out with estimates. I hope I don't offend anyone, but Thomas Construction and Champion were extremely expensive. I'm sure their products are great, but they were WAY out of our price range (like $11,000 for the rest of our windows). We ended up going with Window World, and we were very happy. The installers were very professional and polite, and we got the rest of our windows (11 more in all) for about half of the previous estimates. We did get their mid-grade windows, not the cheapest ones that are $189.

Get them installed before December 31st for the tax rebate. I'd call soon because it took them 4 weeks to get our windows in, although they installed them the very next day.
