Removing Sequins

OK, This may sound dumb, but I bought a dress with sequins on it and I'd like to remove some of them. I know, I know, why the heck did I buy it if I don't like the sequins??? It isn't that I don't like them it's just that I'd like to remove some of the ones that are around the arm holes and the back of the neck, they are itchy. They are not sewn on (unfortunately) they are glued on as part of the fabric. Any ideas of how I can safely remove a few?

Thanks,

M.

What can I do next?

I would consult a seamstress. It may be easier to sew a thin band of fabric/ribbon around the arm holes over the sequins than peel off the sequins, depending on the base fabric. I speak from experience, with sequins on tulle :)

This would be a job I take to my tailor.

I have a super woman tailor I've used for years and she would be my go to on this type of thing.

i'd definitely take that to a pro. sounds like a great potential to ruin a dress you like.

Rather than remove them, would it be easier to cover them? Maybe clear glue over the ones that are itchy to make them "smooth"?

Good luck- I don't like itchy/pokey things, either :)

Depending on what sort of glue was used to glue them, maybe some nail polish remover or Goo-Gone on a Q-tip might help you remove a few from those selected spots where they make you itch.
Try asking a dry cleaner or maybe someone at a sewing store.
If they are hot glued on you may have to scrape them off one by one carefully with an exacto knife.

I don't think it's a dumb question at all - I think I would carefully remove one of those sequins and see what that area underneath looks like to know what you are dealing with. If it doesn't look like you can remove the glue with Goo-gone, you could always reglue the sequin and no harm done.
