Mamas,

I'm proud of myself because I haven't truly "worked out" in over a year and finally stuck in the work out dvd and made myself work out. I want to be committed to fitting in at least 30 minutes a day of working out. However, now my body hurts SO bad I can't get anything done around the house.......I guess I pushed myself a little too hard and am feeling the affects today.......my head, legs and back HURT!! I've taken motrin, used the heating pad, taken a HOT bath, rubbed the muscles and so far NOTHING is helping.......I'm almost scared that when the pain subsides and I work out again, that I'll get the same painful results.......please let me know if theres anything I can do to relieve the pain and reassure me that it won't continue to be this painful every time!!

TIA for any advice!

What can I do next?

I worked out for the first time in years on Friday so I know what you are talking about. It hurt to sit, stand, lay down, even touching my legs would send me into orbit. Nothing will help except to just keep going...you might be moving a bit slower but it will get better. By Monday, even though I was still in pain I walked on the treadmill for awhile. Don't give up, as your body adjusts to the workout you will start to feel better. Remember though, as your body does adjust it will get used to your workout and "know" what to expect so make sure you change up your routine every so often.

i know this sounds crazy but doing another workout is what relieves mine. I'm doing p90x and there were days that i hurt so bad but I did my w/o the next day and it actually didn't hurt and relieved my soreness.

You go girl! I'm proud of you working out... I haven't for quite some time, I do know the second day is always worse than the first, if you keep it up, thru the pain, it'll get better. Don't over do it though... you didn't gain all that weight in one day, so take your time in losing it too, it'll stay off then.
Seriously, I am proud of you, I need to get committed myself.
God Bless your body!

i was going to say the same thing as cricket, i know it's easier said than done. the first time i worked out with a trainer i was miserable for 2 days and did nothing, when i finally went back 3 days later she said the worst thing i could have done was to do nothing. so do something even if it's a walk down the street. good luck.

Make sure you warmup slowly and be sure to stretch for at least 15-20 minutes right after your workout, lengthening all the muscles you worked out.

Make sure give yourself 1-2 days to recover from your workout to build the muscle back.

Eat right and drink a ton of water, vitamins, calcium, enough rest, a protein shake within 60 minutes of your workout to help build the muscle back. Maybe try a lavender epsom salt bath with not too hot water for 20 minutes.

Be careful not to de-motivate yourself by training too hard. Might want to take it back a notch. LISTEN to your body. It is telling you something.

It is great that you are working out. Keep going, just fine tune your workout, Maybe try something different, vary it up.

Also, don't forget that you just started working out. It has been over a year and your body needs time to adjust to the new demands of working out. Be patient with yourself to prevent an injury. If you keep pushing yourself without respecting your body, you will end up further behind with an injury. You won't be able to workout at all if this happens.

So, stay motivated by making small changes to keep yourself motivated and getting stronger each day.

After 3 weeks of working out, your body shouldn't hurt, and you have started a pattern of working out. So you will know how to listen and feed your body to get the results you want and have more energy without being sore.

Good Luck~

Drink LOTS of water and work out again - the second time just do very LOW impact....also stretch....stretch...stretch!!! I promise it will get better! Whenever I start my bootcamp workouts I am in PAIN after...usually worse on the 2nd day after! Keep it up and GOOD LUCK!!!!

My advice - drink TONS of water and eat bananas. The water and the potassium in the bananas will help flush out the lactic acid in your muscles that are causing the soreness. Also, after you workout, always, always, ALWAYS spend at least five minutes stretching and stretch as many areas as possible (look up stretching exercises online for ideas). It's better to stretch at the end of the workout when your muscles are warm and pliable than at the beginning when they are cold and stiff. I'd wait a day or two for the soreness to reduce before working out again. If you're in this much pain, after ibuprofen, then you're at greater risk of injuring yourself. Also, if you do that workout DVD again (and I hope you do) and you're sore again, maybe try a lower intensity workout for a while to get your body used to motion before going back to this harder DVD. My favorite workouts are Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds. There are TONS of different ones out there and you can make it as high or low impact as you want.
