Regressing with Potty Training

My little boy is 2 1/2. We started potty training in June. He got it so quick that I was in shock! Even last month at the mall he had to go to the potty during lunch that I had to pack up the food and find a restroom quickly! He was so good at keeping his training underwear (at home) and pull-ups (while out) dry. Starting this week he has no interest in the potty. When I say it is time to go to the potty he gets limp and starts to fuss. He has accidents everywhere! I've used the stickers and had a chart in the beginning. I've thought about hanging the chart on the wall so he sees it when he walks in. Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi...This happened to me with my daughter, she was 3. Kids do not like change and will stop doing something to prove a point. My little girl was in a day care for a couple hours a day, she was almost completely potty trained when I had to take her out for the summer months. She would wet and I had to put both thick panties with the plasttic and pull-ups on her. I was told that whatever you do, not to call them babies because they regressed, when they decide they are ready they will let you know. My daughter told me she wanted to wear big girl panties after about 3-4 months and she never wet again. Be Patient...It will happen.

When I had a child care center I went to a Conference in Ada Oklahoma and was in a class about toddler/preschool development. What I remember most from this class is how they said children learn. They said picture a field of windows floating. This is their brains. At any given time a window opens and information flows into their brain and they learn something in leaps and bounds. It amazes the grown ups around because it is so much learning. Then suddenly other windows open and some of the previous windows shut. Some stay open forever but some just slam down and shut for a while.

That happens in any given area. Potty training is one of those most common to shut for a while. Don't worry, he is working on something else right now, it will come back but be patient and give him opportunities to go and give him rewards after he goes.

Sounds pretty normal. You will probably have to go through this a few times, but it will eventually pass. My only suggestion would be to stay calm and keep up the hard work. You might also try the cotton training underwear (only available at JCPenny's) to help contain some fluid. Good Luck :)

both of my kids regressed and i was told it was pretty normal. Once they come out of it though they were full force and we never looked back.

Godd luck...i never used pull ups either...i only used the cotton pants with the plastic overs over them.
