I am looking for a good photographer in the San Francisco/Bay Area to take family photos and photos of my 6 week old son. I would love to have a referral from other moms. Kristin Policy is fantastic photographer, as you can see on her site. She has a way of drawing out and capturing children's real personalities and joy. Kristin has a beautiful little studio in the EB, on College in the Rockridge district. It has both inside and outside options (in a little garden), and I believe, she'll make home visits if that's what you want. We have some gorgeous photos of our girl thanks to Kristin.

We use Angela Lang. She is in Oakland. She has a studio in her home or she can meet you anywhere to do an outdoor shot. She has photographed all 3 of my kids and done a great job. We have used outdoor venues (parks, etc.) Her prices are reasonable. Her style is "journalistic." She used to be a newspaper or magazine photographer, I think.

We second the recommendation for Angela Lang. She has done my maternity photos as well as helped document our daughter's first year. Angela is down-to-earth, personable fabulous with children (as well as parents). She gets everyone to relax, smile and have fun - and very importantly she goes with the flow (dealing with meltdowns, feeding breaks during sessions, etc.) My friends and family have loved her work so much - that one friend used her for her wedding last month!

Two really great SF photographers are Jade Studio Productions and Karina Marie Diaz. You can Google both. I looked very closely at both for my wedding and both were excellent in different ways. You will get amazing photos from either one. We used Jade Studio for the wedding and an engagement session. Karina does amazing and very personal work as well.

Hi D., I recommend the photographer Kathy O'Leary. Her studio is located in San Francisco on California btwn Fillmore and Steiner. Kathi takes beautiful pictures of babies, children, and families (dogs too) and works to keep her prices reasonable. Kathi also teaches wonderful digital photography classes for children after school and during the summer,as well as classes for adults. Both my children (now teens) have taken Kathi's classes multiple times, and my daugter has gone on to work for Kathi as a class assistant. You can see Kathi's work at kathioleary.homestead.com. Amy Perl is awesome! She has taken pictures several times of my daughter and we really like her and the photos. She is calm and sweet and has a great eye. I'm not sure what you consider ridiculously expensive but I'm sure you wouldn't put her in the inexpensive category. One option is that she routinely does photo shoots at a store called Crackerjacks which is right off of Piedmont Avenue. She charges much less when you see here there and she gives you a 15 minute slot. I checked on her webpage (amyperl.com) and didn't see any events coming up but you could email her to see when she expects to have the next one. I'm guessing she is pretty busy with holiday orders, etc right now but imagine her schedule will open up in January. Although we did spend a fair amount of money on the one photo shoot she did at our house it was money I don't regret spending at all and so pleased my in laws because it was a gift to them (the photos were of them with my daughter). I absolutely love the photos she took of my daughter when she was about 3 months old - that was one of the shoots at Crackerjacks and they came out beautifully. One thing to factor in in terms of price is that there is the price of the shoot but then there is also the charge for the reprints if you get more than what is included in the package you're purchasing. It does add up but again I feel it was money so well spent. Amy has a new studio on Piedmont Avenue and I"m sure she'd be happy to have you come by and check it out and looks at albums of photos she's taken. Good luck.
Gregory Cowley did a great job with family pictures with our then 10 month old son. The best best best part, is that he and his partner came to our house and that the sitting was free! They took great pictures of us in our backyard and even did a few of our dog that turned out great. Prices were very reasonable. The whole family was happy.

I have the best photographer ever and she is soooo reasonably priced! I found her for my wedding pictures, I only wanted to do a couple hours of pictures and could not find anyone to accomadate me, until I found Arleen!! She took the most amazing pictures and it was not expensive and the upmost quality! She then offer to take a photo shoot of me while pregnant, did not charge me but I only paid for the pictures I ordered! She's great, barely knew her and when my daughter was born, she came over with dinner! She's a real sweet heart!
