My 4 months old baby has been running fever for the last 2 days. The temperature is 100 to 102. His doctor gave him infant acetaminophen to reduce his fever and Benadryl for his watery/itchy eyes and nose. It didn't help. I believe he got a virus from my older son who was on anitbiotic for 3 days. The dr mentioned we may put my little one on antibiotic too. Is is ok to give 4 months old baby antibiotic?

What can I do next?

Yes, antibiotics prescribed for the baby are fine. But don't use the same antibiotics your older son did -- make sure to go in and get the baby his prescription.

if you older son had a virus, why was he on antibiotics? if your baby has a virus, antibiotics won't help - so no, that's not a good idea. if he has a bacterial infection, yes, he shoud be on antibiotics. personally, i think a 102 fever in a 4 month old warrants some checking out - more than tylenol and benadryl(which isn't usually used AT ALL in children under 23 lbs). i'd be asking for some bloodwork to confirm/deny the presence of a bacterial infection and go from there. hope he's better soon.

Tylenol/Motrin things, only temporarily reduces the fever... it does NOT cure, it or make it go away.
IF the child is still sick, the fever will return.

Did the Doc say what he has????

Antibiotics, will not cure a virus.
Only bacterial infections.

Don't you trust your MD? If you don't get another one.
Call your local hospital to help you find someone you trust. Don't rely

Infants get fevers all the time. Their little immune systems are still developing, and they are constantly fighting off something. It doesn't necessarily mean that they need antibiotics. Obviously if the doctor feels the child needs antibiotics, then you should give them, but a fever of 100-102 does not sound alarming, at all. It sounds very normal.
