Really, they are about the same. To me, it seems like you can see spots on both. I've had both. So I tend to focus on what's going on in the rest of the bathroom in regards to cabinet color, tile color choice, etc. and how what you're working with looks w/ the brushed vs. chrome. Note that some brushed finishes are also more steely looking and some are more yellowish.

I have polished in our bathroom and brushed in the kids bathroom. There is no difference in cleaning. They have been in for four years and they appear to be wearing the same. We are talking the exact fixtures just with two different finishes.

Brushed is prettier!! An no cleaning difference. If anything, I think chrome shows pots more

I think the brushed shows fewer spots, at least it does in my bath and kitchen. I even changed my switch plates to brushed nickle and I don't notice fingerprints as much on those.

We have brushed and it has not done well. BUT. . . . what my husband and I did not know, and what no one told us, is apparently there are some fixtures that are more for looks than use? That we were NOT supposed to use abrasives, especially anything with bleach on them.

I honestly can't remember the exact finish. The stopper and the little ring around the stopper are discolored and generally look like poop. I had our plumber out for something unrelated and asked him about it and he said that there are some that the 'finish' will NOT be under warranty only the workings. So ask questions and read the fine print to make sure you are getting fixtures that will stand up to good solid cleaning!

I went with chrome. It has been around a long time so I know it won't be an old "dated" and "out of style" look one day. Besides, it costs about half of what the brushed nickel does for the exact same fixture.

I think they are the same. It is more important to use what goes with your home. My walls are brown with beige accent walls and I changed everything to the brushed. I don't have any problems with it.

Our downstairs restroom doesn't bet used so often, so we did have some discoloration on the stopper and sink from the water. I plugged the sink and let vinegar sit overnight. The next morning I wiped up some gross ick with a towel and everything looked new again. But that was for hard water problems.

I think Chrome shows water spots and fingerprints more easily. Plus brushed looks nicer.

"Brushed" finishes, will not show fingerprints or spots as much.

And it also depends on, what type of metal it is????
Stainless steel? Nickle? Brass?

The type of metal is also very important.
Cheapie metals, will corrode more and will not last as long as high end fixtures and materials.
