I purchased Childcraft Legacy nursery furniture from Babies 'n Beds in Bartlett. They have a big selection of many different higher quality furniture. They also deliver and set up the furniture, which is really nice.
I am very happy with the stuff I got, and I would recommend buying a "lifetime" or "convertible" crib. They convert to a toddler bed and then into a full sized bed. That way there is no need to buy different pieces later on.
If you lkive in a 2 story house I would get a Pack 'n Play for downstairs. I purchased one at Babies R Us (but they are available everywhere) and it is perhaps the most used piece of baby furniture I have. It has a bassinet and a changing table so it saves me LOTS of trips up and down my stairs.
Here is Babies 'n Beds website. The guys who work there don't look like the type to be experts in baby furniture, but they were very nice and helpful. They have a new store in Elmhurst too.

Congrats on the baby. I just had my first Sept 8th and it is the most amazing experience.
