Recommendations for Infant Carseat That Is Lightweight

Hello Moms, I am looking for an infant carseat that will be lighter and easier to carry around (and of course SAFE!) for my second baby. For my first, we used the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio, which was one of the highest rated for safety, but I found it so cumbersome to carry and lift in and out of the car. I developed really bad tendonitis in my hand and wrist which didn't help. I am wondering if anyone has used a car seat that they found easier to lift and carry around. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

Did you try a graco ? I had two different ones and I liked them both. what you may want to do and remember is even though the baby is small, you don't have to carry baby around too much in the carry on. My son was forming a start of flat head in the back and it was because he was on his back too much. So we started to alternate his body position and he was fine. Remember it isn't healthy for baby to be in a baby car seat for too long . Don't ever let the baby sleep in there as in example a friend's house or supermarket shopping. Bring baby in a sling wrap around, it is more beneficial. I went to a training from my job once, and there was once a very tragic story of a baby that was brought to daycare in an infant car seat, carry on. The baby mustv'e been in there for too long I guess when they went to touch the baby, she was dead !
I will never forget that. We have to remember the child is in there strapped in and a little tighter than normal. As it is more comfortable for you as well not to carry baby around in a heavy object !
They are suppose to stay in the vehicle, only bring the carry on with baby in it, if you really have to. Take baby out of there as much as you can. I stress about this because I have seen too much of the " bucket baby "
It isn't fair for the innocent child. I don't think we would want to be carried in that form everywhere.
Hope I helped. Hope I did not sound harsh. I just care.

My youngest always hated his infant car seat so I always left it in the car and attached to the base and used a sling when we went out w/ him.

I also have to recommend the Graco products. I had the infant seat and matching stroller that you could snap the infant seat into or use as regular stroller also when he got a little bigger. This was great for walks at the mall, diaper bag fit in the undercarriage basket & my little guy was happy in it. I did use a baby carrier (like a snuggi) sometimes but I didn't care for it much. I was nursing & I am short & on the heavy side so it was hard to put on, couldn't put it on with him in it because I would have bounced him around too much & I was afraid I would drop him and it was a real pain to put him in when it was already on. He still got pleanty of tummy time and I never had a problem with his head getting flat. He was on the tiny side so he fit in the seat longer than most kids and I used it until he reached the height/weight limit.

The Graco Snugride was the lightest I found and I liked it alot. It also snaps into a snap-and-go stroller which is convenient.

I recommend keeping the car seat IN the car, and get yourself a sling to carry your baby in. These car seats are not supposed to be lugged around, they not only cause problems for us moms, they are very detrimental to babies as well. Babies were meant to be held and carried around with their moms, this is how they learn and develop. Check out this article talking about the overuse of car seats: http://www.mothering.com/articles/growing_child/child_hea... Honestly, slings are the best for you and your baby. I like the Babyland Sling, but there are also Over the Shoulder Baby Holder slings, Kangaroo Slings(I love these!) and several others. It takes practice, but once you have the hang of it, you can do just about anything, even nurse, while you do your daily activities!. Invest in one, it will be so much better than carrying around that heavy car seat! Good Luck!

I use a Graco which has worked well for me so far (my daughter will be 7 months next week); it fits in to about every shopping cart I've come across too. Also, I love using my front carrier w/ her as well when she is not sleeping; I have the Jeep front carrier and haved LOVED that as well. Congrat's on the new arrival!

Hi Liza,
I have used Graco for all four of my kids and loved them. Unfortunately, I think they are all like this (heavy). A sling is a good idea, but not for everybody. You may love them, you may hate them. But since you asked about a carseat, I would say Graco and a Graco Snap n'go (about $59). The snap n'go was my favorite "convenient" baby item. You could carry just the baby in and out of your house and leave the seat in the car and if you are going any further than that then you can put the seat in the snap n'go. It will save on your back and your hand and wrist. Good luck! Enjoy #2!!

We loved our Graco Snugride 22. I'm not sure if they make it anymore as they have upgraded them -- I think to the Graco Snugride 30 or the Safeseat. One other thought -- when our little guy woke up out of the seat, we transitioned him to a carrier (I had a New Native Carrier which worked great in the early days) which meant we didn't have to carry him as much in the seat -- which is cumbersome!

I'm going to echo what others have said and say leave the car seat in the car and get a sling or other baby carrier. You will love it once especially with having your hands free for your other little one.

I just had to respond because I think people are being a little judgmental here. You weren't asking which carseat your new little one should live in 23 hours/day, just which one is light and safe. Sheesh.

I also recommend the graco, which I used for both of my kids. Of course it was more cumbersome than using the ergo carrier, but, especially with my second, it was much more convenient than waking a sleeping baby for a quick grocery store run. Also, the graco fits really well into a snap n' go, which was great for short walks or a few close errands. Not super expensive either, which is always a plus!

Good luck with number two!

We loved the Graco Snugride infant carseat carrier for our son. I believe it weighed 8 lbs and was one of the lightest carriers on the market. It ranked quite high on consumer reports and it is definitely one of the safest. I believe it can carry a baby up until he/she is 22 lbs.
