Really...what Works?! :)

I am desperately trying to loose ten more pounds and am finding it nearly impossible! I am 5'5'' and before my latest fitness kick (about 6 weeks ago), weighed about 154 with an athletic build. I am down to 144 after a ton of exercise and a somewhat strict diet. I am very active and enjoy running with my todler (16 months) in his jogging stroller. I run approximately 2.5-3.5 miles five or six days a week. What's worked for you in the past to shed that dreaded last 10 pounds? I need some new ideas!

What can I do next?

Hi L.!

Come join us at StrollerFit! I teach this class at Demon's Landing downtown near the Pier. We do cardio, strength training, abs & core, stretching and more! Most of all, we interact with the babies the entire time and also have a chance to bond with other moms. I hope you'll take advantage of a FREE class...we have a great time getting rid of that baby weight! Give me a call!

Hi L.,

I get it! I also put on a ton of weight after my baby (17 month old). I have just started a fitness kick in the past month and slowly losing weight.

Have you heard about Shirataki Noodles? I was introduced to them about 2 weeks ago and I highly reccommend them! They are really yummy and have ZERO Carb and ZERO calories. I replaced a meal or two a day with them and honestly lost 5 pound in a few days. You can get them from and good asian grocer.

Hope that helps,

F.

eat more veggies, salads and fruit. Cut back on meat. This is per the book The China Study by T. Colin Campbell.
Lost weight without trying by using this book.

Dear L.,
I would suggest making sure you are eating enough calories at least 1200-1500 calories. If you don't eat enough calories, your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto any calories it gets. Try not get focused on the number on the scale and go more with how your body feels and looks. Your body is forever changed by having a baby and may not go back to exactly how you want it. (I wish mine would!!) Good luck.

Give up sugar, but it sounds like you may have done that. I think you are doing a lot of cardio but are you lifting weights? Building muscle, especially your upper body helps you lose inches because muscle is smaller than fat and every muscle you have in your body burns extra caleries all day long. I would do less cardio and more weight lifting or yoga and pilates. If you are eating too few calories and running that much, your body may be starvation mode and hanging on to whatever extra weight you have.

I started weight lifting after college. My legs were always strong but I had no upper body strength. My trainer told me working my upper bosy will make my lower body look smaller. That sold me and within three weeks I looked better than ever. I didn't lose weight but I redistributed it and everyone thought I lost weight. I just lost 2 pant sizes.

Hi L., I suggest continuing to eat fresh fruits and vegees, whole grains and fresh, WILD Atlantic Salmon. Try to stay away from dairy and processed foods although an occasional organic yogurt is good for you. You feel so good and your body will work much more efficiently. It sounds like you hit a plateau with your work out so you might change it up a bit by doing intereval training. In other words, do your regular run but alternate with some sprints as long and as fast as you can, maybe a minute at a time, then cool down with a jog or brisk walk and do it again. Try this for about 20-30 minutes a few times a week but not on consecutive days. This will jump start your metabolism again and is really good for conditioning your cardiovascular system. Also, resistance training is really important. The more muscle mass you have the more quickly you can burn fat. You don't have to use weights but light weights are inexpensive at the Sports Authority or you can get a resistance rope. Fitness balls are great to have and they usually come with a guide to excercises. Good luck, it's sounds like you're doing really well.
