So i brought my 21 month old into the clinic the other day because for the last couple weeks she has had a wierd rash that itches come and go. It will show up on her back and i will put some baking soda and water on it then it will go away after a while and then pop up on her belly and then her legs. One day it might be barley noticable and not itch and the next day it will be on her legs, then the next a different area. It is very random and the dr has no idea. Her white blood count is normal, her strep test was normal, she has no other symptoms. They say could be just a skin sensitivity to something. We use free and clear laundry detg/fabric softner already and i use hypoallergenic soaps that are free of chemicals/scents, etc. She has always had a bit of a rash come and go her whole life but this is not normal to me. It looks like little pimples almost, some kinda look like white heads almost but they dont break open or anything. Has anyone experienced this type of a rash before. It is so hard to figure out rashes, so i just thought id get some opinions. If it dont go away soon then i will be bringing her back in again because it does really bug her when its there.

thanks

Even though it's "free and clear" you might want to consider getting rid of the fabric softener. I had a toddler with sensitive skin and eczema and that was one of the first things I was advised to do. No fabric softener or dryer sheets.

Is it possible it's yeast? Instead of baking soda, try an anti-fungal cream (over the counter, like athlete's foot cream). If it clears up from that, too, I'd go with yeast.

If it's popping up in places where it doesn't stay moist, then it likely would clear up on its own.

How to treat it with it popping up all over? Not sure - sounds systemic and might need to be treated with oral medication.

Excema was my first thought. Any kind of allergy can inflame it. Food, environment sometimes its hard to find the culprit. Aveeno is good for it. Get some and see if it helps.

with your description of the white heads without popping it almost sounds like a heat rash or just excema flare ups. Does it show up in places where clothes get tight like when you say her legs is it in the crease behind the knee up by the hip? or its just totally random? id try aquaphor unless its a large area that is rashed. Do you use a really good hypoallergenic lotion maybe she is really dry? I love baby aveeno.

I am going through the same thing with my son right now! He is 14 months old and it started about a month ago. I have switched all lotions soaps, food. You name it and I have tried it! The doctors even treated him for scabies. It has some what calmed down over the last two weeks but is still there. As of now im going with some type of excema? Let me know if you figure something out please!

We just took my 6 yo old in for what appeared to be a rash and then very dry skin. It ended up being Eczema. Had to see the dermatologist. I would ask your doc for a referral to a derm and go from there. Good luck.

My son used to get rashes like this, he has quite sensitive skin. I agree wtih Spidermoney, it could be any number of allergens. Even though you are using a laundry powder for sensitive skin it could still be bothering her. We had to try a few different ones before my son's rash got better.

We are constantly finding new things that bother his skin - the other day he rolled around in the grass playing with his cousin and 20 minutes later was covered head to toe in a rash, itching terribly. I had to give him Zyrtec for Kids and put cool washclothes all over him.

The only silver lining is that rashes are very rarely reason for serious concern, although I am sure your daughter is not comfortable when she's all itchy.

Rashes usually are because a person is allergic or has an intolerance to a certain food, food group, or chemicals/preservatives/dyes.

I would think about taking her to a Naturopathic doctor and having her tested for food issues. I would seriously consider doing this. I used to have what the doctors called eczema on both of my elbows that would never go away. Then I discovered that I have an allergy to cow's milk and also intolerances for soy and gluten. Once I quit eating those foods, my "eczema" cleared up, went away, and I've never had it again.

There is another type of rash that is called Dermatitis Herpetiformis, which is caused by Celiac Disease and is controlled through a gluten-free diet. Check out some pictures of that rash on the Internet and see if it looks like what your daughter gets. I have been told that this rash is quite itchy and often gets what looks like small, little white blisters. An allopathic doctor can test for this; actually, I think a Dermatologist has to take a skin sample to have it tested. If she has Dermatitis Herpetiformis, it/the rash is controlled by a gluten-free diet. For life.

Good luck.
