My 28 month old son has been to India since he was 19 months old and came back to US last week. He had feer during the long flight. He seemed to be doing okay after he landed except for the jet lag etc., since this afternoon, I noticed he had a rash on one of his cheeks. His cheeks become red when he has fever, so we thought he could be haing fever. But later when I was giving him bath this night, I noticed same kind of rash on his hands near the shoulders and also on his other cheek. On one cheek, it was all red. But on the other cheek, it was only little area. so wasn't sure what was happening with him...I had rash issues with my younger son when he was newborn because I used Johnson &Johnson body lotion for him..when I replaced the body lotion with Cetaphil, the rash was gone. But I didnt have this issue with my older one(the affected one now) since he was born...He did not use Johnson and Johnson body wash while he was in india...but I started using it when he came back to US. is the rash related to some allergy? food or any other product? Any experiences? Appreciate your help.

I am not sure what the rash is but the bath brings it out. The bath shows you just what the rash really looks like. If it itches try an oatmeal bath. The fever with the rash looks more like an illness then an allergy. Most allergies don’t cause fever. I like to use webmd.com to enter the symptoms and get some ideas on what to do. Hope this helps

There is a rash common in children called Slapped Cheek disease or 5th disease (I think). It comes after a fever and it looks like they have been slapped on each cheek. They can also have the rash on other parts of their body. My daughter had it a few months ago. It was the strangest thing. Apparently after they have it they can never get it again. Also, it is only contagious before they get the rash. If an adult gets it, they normally don't get the rash but they feel really bad and their joints ache. You might want to Google it and see if it sounds like what he has. We did benadryl and an oatmeal bath.

I agree with the previous posters - I don't think this is an allergy because of the fever. Fifth disease is just one of MANY viral illnesses that can cause a rash. I would give your pediatrician's office a call. Hopefully they will be able to tell you how long it should last & if/when you should bring him in.
