Hi Moms. My son has roseola. I understand there is no medication that can be given but his rash is really bothering him. Are there any good anti-itch creams out there that are safe for a one year old? I would prefer something that dries clear so he doesn't go around with white or pink patches all over his body. His first birthday is in 6 days and I want to get this under control so he isn't miserable during his party. Thanks all!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks all. I went to the doctor again today and she said that since he is just scratching himself raw she will prescribe him a mild antihistamine other than benadryl. She said typically benadryl will cure it, but for some reason his was bothering him quite a bit. Thanks all for the wonderful suggestions I will go to sprout and see what they have to say for future use. Have a good day.

A., There is a homeopathic remedy called Rhus-tox. The name is longer than that but I can't pronounce it! Just ask for Rhus-Tox and they will show you what it is. It is great for itchy rashes such as Roseola, Chicken pox, poison ivy or oak. You just put two pellets under their tongue and repeat as often as necessary. You can't overdose on it. Stops itching and works great! Blessings!

Someone on here suggested Desert Essences. They got it at Sprouts for mosquito bites. They said the redness went away fast and it stopped the itching. I don't know if it would work for roseola though.

Hi A.
If I were you I would go to a whole foods store or some place like Sprouts and ask the expert. They have helped me in the past with eczema and bug bites. If you want to send me a PM I can tell you what they recommended for our eczema and bug bites.

When my children had chicken pox and roseola, my pedi told me to give them benadryl by mouth and use caladryl clear on the "ouchies"...but it has been almost 10 years since I have dealt with either...so please check with your pedi before doing either one if you aren't comfortable with it...

Hope this helps!

Hi A.-

The soap and lotion products that contain chemical fragrances and dyes can really further irritate his skin. I work for Arbonne
International and our baby line has no chemicals and the ingredients are derived from plants. Many ezcema patients have had great success with our baby line clearing up their babies
rashy skin.
I have a sample of our baby line (wash, lotion, body oil, diaper rash cream and sunscreen) if you would like me to mail it to you just respond with your address.

Thanks!

My son had roseola and I don't recall the rash bothering him. I think a rash that itches might be something different from typical roseola, or maybe allergy related. Have you tried Benadryl or Zyrtec? I'd call the pediatrician though. I really don't think roseola should itch.
Also, you can make your own oatmeal bath. Grind about 1/3 cup of oats in a food processor or coffee grinder. Aveeno makes a good oatmeal bath too.

Benadryl by mouth (1 tsp per 25# of body weight) and baking soda baths.

Eucerin anti-itch lotion works really well too.

Bathe him with Aveeno oatmeal anytime itchies are bothering him. It comes in packets that you pour into the tub--very soothing.
