Quiter Breastpump??

I have been using the Medela Pump in Style, but it is so loud and BIG! I am back to work, so I bring it and pump my milk while at work. The problem is that I am on a team (all women) and we sit in cubicles together. I have to leave my desk and go into an empty office to pump because of the noise. Also, the bag is too big to sit on my desk and work. Needless to say, I'm not getting anything accomplished. If I had a quiter pump, I could sit at my desk and pump while covered up and still get some work done while doing so!

Does anyone know of a quiter (or smaller) option that is still decently effective? Does anyone know anything about the Medela Swing? I don't want to stop breastfeeding, but this is getting really hard to keep up with. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I am pumping at work with a manual hand pump- the Avent Isis- and it works great. I am in the staff bathroom, which is rather inconvenient, but I will say that it's completely silent (no electric "whooshing" sound to deal with). It only takes me about 15 minutes total- it has really good suction too if you take off the plastic padding thing it comes with. I store everything in the office fridge- milk and the pump itself- in a little lunch bag. Everyone assumes it's my lunch. Anyway- hope that helps- it has worked really great for me in an office that isn't really breastfeeding-friendly. Good luck!

I use the Ameda purely yours and loved it. It is about 7in x 5in x 3in. You can use it in the bag which makes it quieter but you can also take it out and it is still not that loud. it runs about 150 - 200 new but because the collection system keeps milk out of the motor you could by the pump base used (if you could find it) and then get the collection system new for about $40.

Here is the company website with all the info:
http://www.ameda.com/products/personal.aspx

And here is a site where I got a lot of my accessories from and they have a great comparison chart between the ameda and the medela:

Good Luck and hope this helps!

Hi C.! I never went back to work after my son was born, but I know that the pump I used was loud. But one day when I was at the dentist, I got to talking to the dental asst. and she was telling me about the pump that the was using. It is called Whisper Wear. Here's the link for it: http://www.whisperwear.com/. It fits right into your bra and you can set it to pump at certain times and for certin amounts of time, like 20 min. if you want. They are kinda spendy, but it may be worth it to you, just so you can get more done. You could even be doing your grocery shopping and pumping at the same time!!! LOL I hope this has helped you! Good luck!

C.,
I am not sure about other pumps because I used this pump and loved it because it is the most productive. But, I also had an office to myself. I have two suggestions to help it be quieter. Because the hoses are long, you could try keeping it under your desk and closing the flap. I noticed that closing the flap helped a lot with the noise, but maybe not enough for others in the same office.
Good luck. Don't give up on nursing!
