Hi moms,
I just have general questions about teething. My 12 month old son has been in a very crummy mood lately and hasn't been sleeping well. I saw a tooth break through a week days ago (its his 6th), but it seems so much worse than the other 5. The others he was in pain maybe 3 days, and then he was fine. This time it seemed like 2 weeks of pain, and is still in pain. I don't think any other teeth are on the way yet.
Anyway, I guess my questions are, at what age approximately are they done with all the teething? How long does each tooth normally hurt for? I'm pretty sure the worst is yet to come. How bad is it really? :-|
Thanks for all your input!

My daughter is 17 months right now and doesn't have her canine teeth yet. But she has all the rest and her molars really seemd to hurt her alot. She was a bear until they came in, and really clingy. She would wake up alot at night and really early in the morning. He may still have more coming in even if you can't see them. Try some Motrin at night, it seemed to work a bit better than tylenol for my girl. Hope that helps a little and good luck. It will all be over with before you know it.

Around 2. They have 1 year molars and the 2 year molars. From my experience the "eye" (canines) teeth and the molars were the most painful for my little guy. I found this guide.

Upper Lower
Central incisors 6-8 months 5-7 months
Lateral incisors 8-11 months 7-10 months
Cuspids (canines) 16-20 months 16-20 months
First molars 10-16 months 10-16 months
Second molars 20-30 months 20-30 months

Every child is different. I have two boys, the first one always needed motrin and it was very painful. Around molar time we went through 3/4 of the big motrin bottle. He was done around age 2.25. The second son is almost 3, doesn't have all his molars yet. He never needed motrin for teething. My first liked popsicles, and ice cream treats during this painful time. Has he been to a dentist? Some ped's say they don't need to go until 3, but we had insurance and started both our kids at age one. Our ped. said it was fine. Good luck.

Could there be something else going on? Mild ear infection, tummy issue or changing sleep routine? I only ask because my 2 never had any pain or problems from teething. They would mouth things, etc., but it never effected their mood or sleep. I often hear from friends of their babies' teething issues, but when they say they give motrin/tylenol and teething drops, etc., and nothing works, it makes me wonder if it were teeething to begin with, know what I mean? Just a different perspective!
